i think you look really nice on him and he is very beauitful. His trot's looks so smooth too no wonder he is a dressage horse. Also i hope that the next horse you lease will help you with your goals!^^

@Tiny
First off, you look fantastic! Your equitation is very nice! The only thing I'd recommend (and trust me-- I completely understand that you forget a lot of time when listening to you trainer or just riding at ease or what not) but keep those heels stretched down! Your heels can never be too far down! It looks like your fantastic at picking up diaganols right away, but the only advice I have on that, is that while it's very impressive and pleasing to pick up your diaganols right away, sometime it's even better to sit a few strides and really use your seat to get your horse moving forward, and then starting to post (3-6 strides, depending). That brings me to my next little bit of advice. The horse your riding looks like he's a little bit pokey, and he wasn't working off the back end very much. He didn't have his nose in the air, obviously, but we was more "rounded" as opposed to "collected" and needed to move forward a little bit more. At some point, you look like your trying too hard to post, and using more energy to rise and keep him moving than you need to. If he's forward, the energy from his momentum and stride should literally just be channeled into your post, and there should be little to no effort in posting. I hope I don't sound to critical because you guys look great! Nice job and keep up the good work!

@Eruru: Oh no, you're not being repetitive at all. I'm glad you asked, and would be happy to help you (: I guess you could say leasing varies a little bit by location, but generally it is the same principle. I half lease Mulligan, so in my area that means he is "mine" for three days a week. Meaning that I get to ride him three days a week. I had to cordinate those days around when his owner rides him, which is Wednesdays. Usually the owner of the horse still gets priority over the horse, but the leasee is basically second in charge you could say. With Mulligan, no one but his owner and I ride him so therefore we don't have to work out when he is used in lessons or anything. On rare occasions my trainer may put him in a lesson, but that's hardly ever. The basic lease fee from my trainer is $500 a month not including vet bills, getting new shoes, floating teeth, half of the board, mics. expenses. As the leasee my parents are responsible for paying for any shots Mulligan needs and farrier and those kinds of things. The cost ends up being probably $700+ a month.

For me, I was not expected to find a place to board Mulligan, as his owner boards with my trainer. Plus, my trainer suggested that Mulligan would be a good match for me. If you don't ride with a trainer or don't plan on leasing from her, then you can look into leasing from other people's horses. In that case you can look for an "on-site" or "off-site" lease, which means you would have to find a place to board the horse. When I ride Mulligan the three days I am responsible for his care. Meaning I am responsible for grooming him, hosing him off, cooling him down, turning him out, basically any sort of care that he needs. A lease is like a step down from horse ownership, so you are responsible for a lot of the horses care and well being and therefore must know how to properly take care of a horse, and know his/her personal needs (whether that be wearing boots for riding, wrapping legs at night, bell boots & sheet for turnout, etc). Then after I ride I am responsible for cleaning Mulligan's tack, meaning bridle and girth. I have to clean it and put it in his owner's locker after every ride. I decided to buy my own grooming kit strictly for using only on Mulligan and I decided to get my own saddle pad and have my own saddle, but none of that was required for my lease. If I didn't own any of that all of it would be provided for me. Usually lease's are anywhere from 6 months to a year on a regular basis. My parents told my trainer I was only to lease Mulligan for the summer (June-August) but decided since I was being so reponsible and since I was so happy around Mulligan and at the barn, that they would continue my lease. Now we pay on a monthly basis. As I said above, he is not strictly "mine" as his owner rides him too. Altough I do have priority of him for shows. Only his owner and I ride him though, unless he may be used for a lesson but again, that hardly ever happens.
You're very welcome <3 I am glad I could help ;D

^^ Thank you very much! I'm not sure if my family is in the financial situation to do so right now, but I want to look into leasing a horse in the future, and this is all really helpful information! Although I love horses myself (really I'm pretty fond of most animals that don't have exoskeletons), I'm really hoping at some point my sister will at least be able to lease. She used to have a horse, but a few years ago he got colic, and the vets were unable to save him. We've got a lot of deer in our area, so the vet said they think that deer were probably making their way into his field to graze and leaving droppings, and he got sick from them. She's done some volunteer work since his death at a place that helps children with disabilities ride horses as a way to treat a lot of problems from difficulty balancing to weak muscles to trouble communicating. The commute there was pretty long though, so she wasn't able to continue, and she hasn't worked with horses on anything since. In the area we live there are lots of farms and plenty of people who keep horses, so I'm hoping if we can afford it financially that my sister might be able to find somewhere not too far away where she could lease.
She/her, irregular hours but I'll try to get back to you as fast as I can

First let me start with what you are doing well, you are doing a great job of keeping your eyes up and looking forward and ahead, so good job! You also did a pretty good job with staying with him over the jump itself and not getting in his way, especially with all the scope he has xD Your leg is also pretty steady.
Now, you could work on bringing your hands closer to your body and closer together. You want to keep a nice bend in your elbows at all times. Also, you are hands are down really low and instead you want to keep your hands above his withers. Basically bring you hands closer together, elbows in, and lift your hands higher up. Next, you are kind of pulling yourself out of the saddle, and I think the cause of that may be not having enough forward pace and impulsion from your horse. You are also jumping ahead of him. Not just getting too much out of the saddle, but you are getting into two point a few steps before the jump. This usually happens when people are just learning how to jump, so it's pretty common. No need to beat yourself up about that yet. To fix this just think about waiting with your upper body until you feel your horse lift his front legs up. Then you can simply bend at the hips, and not jump "for" your horse. Sometimes when riders see a distance they feel the need to really throw themselves up their horses neck and basically jump for their horse. This messes up your balance more then it does theirs. Just think to yourself "Sit up and sit back" and wait for your horse to jump. Then once you have all of this down you can focus on your release. You want to move your hands up your horses neck a few seconds before you get into two point, to allow them to use their neck effectively.

Just don't be too hard on yourself, because you are doing a very good job and don't let anyone tell you differently! I think if you can fix those over time that you should be looking very very good (: Overall, good job. I look forward to seeing more videos of you guys!

Thankyou for your advise :) I know I seemed to get ahead of him a little, but that was only because he changed his mind each time he jumped, sometimes he took off a little earlier and picked his legs up really high, so I got flung up out the saddle. So I'm going a little in front of him because I didn't want to catch him in the mouth and put him off, that's also why my reins are quite long :) I have been jumping for about two years, it was just this time since I didn't want to catch his mouth :D And yeah my hands probably had to go a little more forward, although they did go quite forward, his necks so long it doesn't look like much :D

I also got told I was aloud the compete him at some point, maybe next year! Se said I have to grow a little first.. I want to stay this size so I can ride the ponies but I also want to grow so I can compete him... I'll just have to wait and see :D

@Mr.Milo

I usually ride 12.1hh to 15hh horses/ponies. Because I school most of the yard's horses so they come in a variety of sizes :P

And yes, my legs are suppost to be forward. It's like a anchor, they keep me in the saddle, since the scope he has is unbelievable :L

Hey everyone, I went to the barn this morning at seven and got out Candy Fare, a crazy little Arabian mare that thinks the world is out to kill her. She is literally scared of everything that moves. Anyways, you have to walk through a sort of foresty 200 meter trail before you get to the indoor arena I wanted to ride in. So, she's all like looking everywhere and tense and all that and then BAMM there's a bird that erupts from the side super fast. Candy gets hysterical, first, she rears to the side and bucks a few times before stretching out to a flat out gallop across the foresty trail thing. I'm thrown off balance by the rear, so I quickly gather my reins and pull her back, hard. I was afraid I would hurt her but I checked her mouth afterwards and she was absolutely fine. She stops and just stares at where the bird was. Yep, so that was the crazy experience of the day, or so I thought. She exploded a few times when the fans started in the indoor, and tried to kick BB in the face. Kicking is a thing that I JUST DO NOT tolerate. I don't know why, but it drives me crazy. I smack her hard [I am not abusing her, I am correcting her, for all the people who thought correcting was abusing] and she shies away. So, I was really mad. I rode her pretty tight [as in not giving her slack] for thirty minutes. She was getting really nice with me, so I gave her some slack towards the end.

After that, I got on Viva and went for a nice little ride bareback, letting her pause to eat. She really is a sweetheart. After that I was really tired, I gave her a quick shower and gave Epsilon some love before going home. At four I have to go and work on Pepper, the crazily aggressive gelding that was gelded too late. He charged at me last time [in the roundpen] when I was trying to do some joinup and I need to know what to do when he charges. Please help.

@rain: That sounds similar to the price of my half lease, but $500 is only the "base" price you could say. Once you factor in all of the other costs it ends up being closer to $700-$800 >.< Plus, you still have to pay for lessons seperatly from the lease. Why are things so much more expensive where I live? P:

@Toppy: Oh I totally understand, and I think it bugs my parents a bit for all they have to pay for.

Yeah I think my dad asked why we had to pay for trailering, and my trainer said it was for putting gas into the trailer. Last time she filled up it was like $400 o.0 I guess comparing that to what we paid for trailering isn't that bad. I still understand your point though, especially about the fun day. You would think that if you were going to the park for fun that you wouldn't have to pay for trailering or really anything else. Ugh it irks me too. That's why I really want to catch ride or ride/exercises other peoples horses for them, because then we wouldn't ahve to pay for hacks and stuff, I would be getting more time in the saddle, and helping people that can't get out to the barn to ride their horses.

That is so great that you do that already, Toppy. You should feel really good about yourself ;D See around me, I am too young to get a job which sucks >.< I want to work so badly, but instead I worked 20+ hours at the Dover Tent Sale and got a $144 gift certificate for all of my work.

@Mr. Milo: That would be great if you could sell stuff and make money too (: It is just a really good feeling you get when you are able to chip and help pay for horse things. Oh wow, that is very cheap for group lessons! See I really want to babysit and have tried to put myself out there, and I have played with the kids for an hour hoping that this would encourage the parents to hire me, but no. Now I am counting on being able to sell the scarves that I knit, or sell some other homemade goodies :3 I just want to contribute to my lessons so badly.

@tiny: Oh that sounds like a lovely barn! I think you definitely made the right choice (:

Wow, that sounds like a fantastic lesson! You know what that reminds me of, the first lesson I had with my trainer. I, like you, had come from a local barn where I was riding in group lessons with 6-8 other people and on schooling horses. Then the first time I came to my trainer I realized I really didn't know as much as I had thought, I mean there was so much left for me to learn. Anyway, just thought I would share xD

Aww I am sorry that you think you might not want to lease Charm anymore, but that's understandable. It's true that you do have to think about the future and which horse is able to take you there. It sounds like the horses at your new barn are really great :3 That is awesome that Joe knows dressage and is a hunter/jumper! I am sure you will learn a lot from this place.

I'll watch the video when I get back from the barn!

@Eruru: You are most definitely welcome <3 I am really glad I could help. I understand what it's like not being able to afford it though. It was two years (or more!) after I asked to lease, that it really happened. We just couldn't afford it before now, and as much I was disappointed, it was worth the wait :3 I really really hope that you or your sister will be able to lease. It sounds like she is doing so many great things, like working at the theraputic riding center. I wish you guys luck, and hope you can lease one day <3

@Pep: You're welcome! I am just glad that the advice was useful. That's fine and understandable and it takes a while to get used to jumping, especially on a horse that overjumps and launches himself into the air xD Oh that was fine that your reins were long, because it is really important not to catch a horse in the mouth when jumping. That is super uncomfortable and it causes discomfort for the horse. That was good on your part, but as you learn how to release and have a better feel of the jump, then you can shorten your reins and release instead of having them super long :3 Good job overall though!

I'm going to miss you like crazy and I love you to pieces.
You are the love of my life and will always occupy a huge portion of my heart.
I want you to know how much I love you, and our 6 months together have been the best 6 months of my life.

Well i actually get private lessons, they are suppost to be only 30 minutes long but i kinda just ride till whenever me and my trainer like to call it a day or when Astoria is tired. Its so hot so we get only about and hour out of him and my trianer warms him up for about 15-20 minutes. Though i know what you mean, its awesome your actually making something to seel i stink at making any scarves or knit or make homegoods. Im having to sell all my stuff animals and trying to find books or giftcards that ive never really used but I really hope that you get alot of buyers id buy if i could! Ya, parents just seem to not want to hire me either. I dont think im bad with kids they seem to like me and i play with them but idk i guess they'd rather see me with their pets. I do dog walking but i do it onlytwice a year because people just put their dogs in the backyard now or they walk them theirselves.
