So far we've seen buffalo, pronghorn, eagles, mule deer, horses, mules, foxes, and a beaver, but we haven't seen any elk, moose, wolves, or bear yet.
The weather is awesome, it's such a change from 100 degree Texas weather. It's around 80 during the day, and 40-45 at night. No clouds, no sticky hot weather, just clean, crisp air. Oh, I want to live here now, I'm falling in love.
We've [finally -_- ] scheduled a [guided] four hour riding trip up into the mountains for tomorrow, and I'm very excited for that.
I already have about a thousand pictures- no joke, seriously, and I will upload some soon. I havent gotten my mountain-ey sunset picture yet. It's just so beautiful out here, a person with a disposable camera and no artistic abilities could take a beautiful picture.

I LOVE riding out west. Went twice in 2010- once in North Dakota and once in Glacier National Park. The ride in Glacier wasn't the best- I was put on the slowest horse in the world. But in North Dakota, I had a nice horse named Mesa.

I'm the one in the red, 4th horse from the left. And this picture doesn't do justice to how high we were. The lady in front of my must have been afraid of heights- kept forcing her horse over to the other side of the trail. Didn't believe that it had the brains to not walk down. we saw a whole bunch of Elk on that ride too- spooked Mesa. The guide was glad that she'd put me on her, since apparently she usually bolts off. I love getting the naughty horses at trail stables. And by naughty I mean quick, not dead broke lazy.

@tanner: That sounds beautiful! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself! I can't wait to see those pictures. ;)
@Sadie: haha XD I know what you mean about the "naughty" horses at trail stables. It's nice to feel like my horse is actually awake versus sleep walking!

Yesterday I had completely wonderful time at an informal dressage show. Since Calypso is on stall rest, my instructor invited me to show one of her lesson horses in walkl/trot dressage equitation. The funny thing was I almost 10 years older than most of the other kids, but you know... XP Oh well! I came in third! I was happy because I hadn't been able to have a lesson in five weeks and I found out two days before the show. I've decided I really want to learn dressage now versus show jumping. I want to train Caly too.

It's amazing. We were up at Teton Village Resort yesterday- we aren't staying there, thank goodness, and took the tram ride up to the very top of Rendezvous Mountain, and we were up around 10,600 ft.
Also yesterday, my grandpa drove me, my dad and my sister to the top of Monument ridge and looked in the Monument Ridge fire tower lookout thing, just down the road from their house. We met some locals there, and they said their father still leads horseback pack trips up there, and he's 80!
You can ask anybody, and they say you can only see so much by driving around, and you can see a fair amount, but it's nothing compared to horseback. You can only truly see the wildlife and mountains by horseback.

I'll reply to people later, I promise. I read everyone's posts but I'm honestly too tired right now and just want to talk about my ride real quick. ^^'

---------

Ugh, I'm so sore. I fell off for the fourth time today and I feel terrible because Major went down with me. Poor old man. </3

I went to the stable at around eleven because my instructor was in a rush and needed to get these two horses ready as quickly as possible. There were only two lessons today, but she said if we helped we could go up to the outdoor and ride while she does the second lesson.
And Major was wonderful. He was lazy at the trot and felt a little stiff, so I asked for a canter just to get his feet moving and get him all warmed up. After that he was perfect. After a week of sluggish lessons and sad, pitiful canters that only lasted a few strides, I was really excited. He was so smooth and moved beautifully, I had to keep after him to keep his canter going but we made it around at least twice. For Major, that's pretty impressive. The outdoor arena is huge, too. We cut the corners at first but then he really started listening.
Then we changed directions and trotted for a little bit. I asked for another canter in the corner.
I don't really know what happened. He sort of stumbled and I remember thinking "oh crap" then suddenly we were on the ground. My friend screamed because it looked like he was going to land on my head. That God he swung himself out of the way in time, he really didn't want to hurt me.
I scrambled out of the way and grabbed his reins. He was on his side but he got up okay. I just remember being really frantic and feeling all his joints and walking him around to make sure he wasn't limping. He was pretty much coated in sand on one side and there was sand in his eyes and nose, but luckily he was fine. My friend hopped off and we walked him back down to the indoor.

And I just feel really awful. I'm completely fine, and my instructor checked Major over. She said it wasn't my fault, but I feel really bad. I'm so glad he's okay and I'm happy I didn't get squashed. I told her what he did and she said that we have a really good relationship and that he was probably trying to protect me. I love this horse so much. <333
I can't remember the whole thing, but my friend said he lost his front foot from under him. His toes are really long because the farrier hasn't gotten to him, so he probably put his foot down and threw the rest of his body forward and just got caught. There wasn't much I could do to stop it from happening, and it wasn't anyone's fault. She said not to ride him until the farrier gives him a trim.
I'm not even that shaken up. Like I remember feeling his body lurch forward, but I don't remember much until I heard my friend yell and seeing Major next to me on the ground. I must've really annoyed Nancy, I get asking if he was okay and sort of panicked while we took care of him. I was so sure that he'd hurt himself. He's such a tough old horse, though. It takes a lot more than this to hurt my baby. I didn't fall far, either. My head hurts a little from the whiplash but all thing considered it wasn't a bad fall.

What drives me nuts is that this was the best ride I've had all week! He felt so perfect and he was being so good. He never tripped or anything when we trotted, and our first canter was one of the best I've ever had on him. Such wonderful timing, lol.
I gave him a bunch of mints and hosed him off after. Hopefully by next week his feet will be trimmed and he'll be ready to go again!

I've started having horrific pain in my right foot whenever I ride now. Right here on my foot. It didn't hurt before because recently, I found out that my stirrup hasn't been on the ball of my foot. So basically I've never really been putting my heels down. As soon as I correctly positioned my foot, the excruciating pain started. We're going to get non-jointed stirrups soon.
It's not my boots, because I just sat on my saddle and put my heels down, and my ankle hurts.

    Woohoo! Camp starts tomorrow! (:

@ Wibeke, oh gosh, that's always freaky. Glad you're both okay though.
I had a horse fall with me a few months ago- she bolted, and I was hanging off her side. Then when she got to the grass, she slipped. Probably should have fallen right on top of me, since I was hanging on her, but yet somehow she fell away from me, so we landed apart but facing one another. We both slid about 7 feet, and she stepped on my arm. But it's definitely a moment of "What the heck just happened?"

@ r a i n d r o p, It probably hurting because your foot wasn't in the correct position- my feet always hurt when I first transition back to the correct form after riding bareback for ages. But if it doesn't stop hurting after a week or longer, maybe get it looked at?

@ Sadie or Bronson? lol; That's what I first thought it was... however, my left ankle doesn't hurt at all, and the pain was literally unbearable. It felt like someone was twisting my foot around and wrenching it off. I almost started crying in the middle of the lesson and almost got off. I never do that. Ever. But alas, I somehow powered through. xD
It won't hurt to get new stirrups, though.

Where are you going to camp? Is it horse camp?

I can't stand the type of beginner pony trail camps, that don't teach anything.
