@Dolphinlover~ -- The horse in the pictures what breed is he? (I tried to read the few sentences above but got confused on his name / breed) That horse almost looks exactly like Cat at my barn! Who is a thoughbred (Spelling?)

Funny thing about Cat (if you ask me) I believe his show name is something like Cat Man Do (Unsure of spelling) I love that name! It is so odd, but pretty much everyone calls him Catman just cause they can and it is cool if you ask me.
I was <Rainy Days> please don't take it

$8 dollars! Lucky! The show I am going to the classes are $25 each! But it will be worth it! It will be my third time with Jasper in a show, and first at a new place, I have only shown at one place before this. I am very excited, but I have a feeling it will be easy. I am regularly jumping 2'0-2'3 at home, but decided to just show crossrails for the first show of 2012. Are any of you guys doing any shows soon?

@sadie: For what I understand, you started working on the trails really young, which is not very responsible from the owner nor is it legal, atleast on my country's terms. And leaving the town and leaving you alone with the horses, still no pay or anything, is near neglation. Though from what you wrote I don't think very highly of her anyway. Also 150 $ is not much for boarding, so either the owner is stupid, place is DIY or the horses are outside all the time. 'Cause that amount barely pays for the mothly expenses of a horse.

So what she's doing to you is not legal or safe really. I know that people work sometimes to get free lessons, free rides etc, I've done it few times too. But you are not getting anything for the work you do. It may be sad to leave the place and horses, but really I don't know if it's worth to work for several hours and get no pay. To me it seems that adult stepping in helped, so I would suggest you do that again, like talk to you parents and ask them to help, or simpy stop working there. I'm not sure how tight your country's rules are considering child labour and such, but if she starts making ruckus or get's more kids to work like you, it might be wise to give autthorities a hint of what she's doing, if not telling them straight. Also I am slightly worried about the horses' wellfare with owner like that, and I do have to wonder how can there be any boarders at that place...

Seriously if that person can't run the place without you, or anyone, doing 'charity' work for her, she shouldn't run the place. I do how ever have to give you applaud for staying there that long and taking up that, honestly said, crap.

@Sadie; I would confront her about the work and the money, and also mention how incredibly rude it is not to call you back or inform you about horses that have passed away. It's intimidating to talk to an adult who has authority, but if you go into it knowing you will probably get kicked out, it's actually easier. However, a lot of times things actually work out for the better when you confront people. So, you'll just have to see how it turns out. But definitely don't put up with that crap anymore.

Sadie sounds similer to an aggistment/riding school that I know off. I wouldn't call the owner reasponsible and all the school horses aren't exactly in good shape. A friend's dad has started to trim all the schoolies feet, so at least thats getting better.
But certainly confront the owner about the money. I completely agree with Hime on what you should do. Leaving that place may be sad but to be honest, it's probably for the best. Everything I would have said has already been said so no point saying it again XD

Me,as said above on the 26th. All my classes are $25 as well,so I have to do at least 2'0",and there's another class for 2'3" that I might do if I ride a horse next week instead of a pony. Luckily,it's only a schooling show at my barn, but every time I've showed there,I always get a TOTALLY unfair disadvantage and end up getting last place, which stinks because I try my hardest EVERY SINGLE TIME. The first time I showed at my barn,I had to ride a horse I had never even knew existed at my barn. The second show, (I was in hunter-jumper) I had to ride a horse that I hadn't ridden in YEARS. He could barely canter, and even though my instructor ran or walked around the arena next to me,telling me what to do,I still lost. The jumping round I had ridden a pony. Then I rode a horse for the flat portion. So,I hate showing now.

@ Sadie: What everyone else said, pretty much. What she's doing in irresponsible.

My instructor's back. It's wonderful to have a real, constructive lesson again. I'll be riding in her dressage saddle from now on. It's great, because every little flaw shows up instantly, so they can be spotted and fixed. Today, I finally came down to where I sort of should be at the canter. It felt amazing XD

However, Diesel, after warming up without a hitch, decided to get difficult. He picked the right rein as his 'trouble rein' today (usually it's the left) and ensured that I did not have an easy ride. He was angelic on the left rein, but on the right, he charged forwards, bent out of corners, overbent in his neck and was generally obnoxious. I did at one point (after he threw a tremendous buck) ask what I was doing wrong, but J said he was just being stubborn.

My instructor stands by B, and he kept bucking and running off there. Suddenly, J realised that Diesel wasn't bucking; he was throwing kicks at her, and he wasn't running off; he was charging. He didn't like her in his space. She stepped back after that, and he was fine. However, he remained in a stubborn frame of mind, which we managed to work through.

Re: Do You Ride Horses? ~ Fresher Thread ;D

My instructor sent me a message this morning and told that Heta had a fight with her new paddock buddy yesterday. Not too bloody(they stood side by side heads facing different directions, trying to kick and bite each other), but they wouldn't stop even when she went to take Heta out there...
I was working at the stable today with one other woman as L and my instructor took two horses to vet clinic. I got there around 11 and the other person had already done most of the work, minus cleaning the stalls. She had also put Heta with the gelding, as she didn't know about the fight. Suprisingly they were totally cool and no fights during the rest of the day, the reason for the yesterday's fight is also a mystery. I tackled on the stalls in the upper stable while she finished up the lower stable. Then we chatted a while as the clock was barely half past 12 when we finished the cleaning.
Then I rode Heta for good while, didn't check the clock but probably bit over an hour. Tried to work on tolt, got one or two good spots and when she stumbled she went clean tolt couple meters. Then moved to trot that wasn't so sure feeling first, but got better after I let her go with loose reins for a while. She had trouble with the right rein this time, especially on the circles she would hang on it quite a lot and not bend. So I spent a good while of the hour doing circles and turns. Canters didn't go so well today, but got couple rounds of steady clean canter to right, which was enough for me as Heta was pretty tired at that point already. I did some loose rein trotting and worked on the halts at walk as she was pretty much not listening to my seat again...
Meanwhile they got back from the clinic, with good news. :D The other horse was operated today and the other one is going to surgery soon. Now fingers crossed the one operated recovers quickly.
Then we fed the horses and I finally got to eat as well, mind you the clock was nearing 4pm at that point I think, and I had eaten breakfast around 9. >_< Then I rode the other woman's horse as she couldn't ride and yesterday they got a new saddle(dressage with suede, or something, covered seat, meaning I didn't move a inch in it and barely got off it  ) to try out for few days. Let's just say her horse is interesting to ride. He has issues with the bit for starters. He listens to it okay, but his head is not steady and he bites the bit with his teeth, like really tries to eat it. The funny thing is that he can be all nice with it, but then suddenly goes back to the play mode. In trot he keeps his head really high(felt weird at first as Heta is more down with the head type), but I got him to go down and steady for short periods. He also has really long swingy strides, at least compared to Heta... XD His trot was really smooth and nice, not very high action though. Tolt was bit tricky as he wasn't happy with the bit and contact in the mouth, but I managed to keep him going for while with just my seat. Which I'm really proud of as L has complained that I don't know how to use it. So I guess I got it figured out now, though it doesn't work on Heta... His canter was super smooth also, at least when I got him going. He kept either going to the fence, nearly slamming my leg on to it, or trying to run over the poles that mark our 'competition' track. And he being bad-ish on the mouth, plus being bit stubborn, and me still having some issues with my weight using, we had our troublesome moments. I still somewhat liked him, his just really stiff when turning/bending or turns really funnily... I dunno, I was riding alone so I have no clue what I did wrong/should have done differently. Now I'm just sort of curious to ride him again on lesson or something, 'cause he could be really nice and in walk things went just fine.
