Had he been at the rescue for awhile before you got him? He looks pretty nice, aside from the feet.

I'm a sucker for Percherons, especially since Willow's momma was one.

eah, he'd been at the rescue for a little while before coming here. He was great for the farrier today and he lets us do his mane however we like xD

That is so sad :'( I can't imagine how bad they must be feeling :C Absolutely heartbreaking.

On a slightly more positive note, both interschool days were a success with minimle issues :D We had one of our team fall (and nearly get stepped on) but I was expecting her to. I know it sounds really bad but things weren't going right for her all day, she had one decent round out of 3 because my friend and I were giving her some last minute coaching. I don't think the horse she's been riding is right for her. I think she should have waited till the next show to enter, she just wasn't ready.
Everyone else did really well and I think our school got 3rd overall.
The second day went really well too. I didn't get to ride becuase I thought someone else was riding Tank and therefore didn't ask to enter, but we ended up only having like 4 riders XD ISD is really, really quite but it's only the 3rd show. Everyone did really well and all in all it was a really good time.

I got a lesson tomorrow which is good :3 Riding of the Bounds was postponed due to it being way to wet and slippery, but that's kinda good too becuase it gives me more time to work with Donny. We've had so much rain the last few days >.< Donny's paddock was flooded, the road was flooded, half of some of the paddocks at school were completely underwater. It sucks because it means we can't ride and it's really hard to get into the paddocks to check the horses. Not ment to rain hard the next few days so hopefully it dries out -.-

Question: When I started to trot Logan would go slightly faster then normal, maybe it was his normal speed, anyways he would strech his neck out as far as it would go and have it low. He did NOT do this at the canter. Any thoughts on why he did that?

Aww! that is so sad!

I rode Logan again yesterday, and again this morning, I had to get him out of the pasture by my self because we(my mom and I) were the only ones there. It probly took me over 10 minutes to do this. Now keep in mind I only learned how to get him out Wednesday, and Logan was an angel about it, this other horse (who I believe was Titian but I don't know) kept walking towrds the gate thinking I was going to put him in his stall. Even though I probly pushed him backwards more then 5 times, and me thinking saying "Stay" would work, I would back up, watching him, turn and clip Logan's halter to the lead rope (Logan stood by the gate the whole time) then look to my side only to see this very tall dark bay horse (the one that was the problem) This went on for maybe 5 minutes. Then he walks away at last after about 5 more minutes then Shooter starts to crib next to the gate, oh geez, I thought but Shooter just let me through. Thank you Shooter! So thats how I wasted 10 minutes, or more, on trying to get Logan out of the gelding's pasture.
Once I tacked up it started to rain (sad I had to ride inside) Then these 2 girls came in to ride (one horse they switched after I left the areana to untack) The one girl pulled on the horses front legs to strech them, then didn't even walk a full half the areana before picking up a trot. She went around maybe 2 at most at the trot before pulling into a canter (I don't know how she did it so smoothly from trot to canter must be the horse) did a cirle at the end on the ring then pulled back HARD making him do a small rearing, umm ok? I thought, then she started to do jumps, and you technechal are NOT subpose to with out the instructor, these were not your small beginer jumps even to begin with. these were pretty much as tall as you can get them kind of jumps. She even said: "How can I make this MORE intimidating" so she put a pull in front of the jump maybe 3 or so feet away. Once she jumped she would, again make her horse stop cantering Imedantly! Later we went out to dinner with some family who owns a horse at the stables (They own Boon who is a cute paint) They told me her name and her horse's name (To both I have forgotten) and they said (Before I told them what she did yesterday) that she was kinda reckless, and that her horse (I believe Adian but still forgotten) was almost always lame, I wander if a horse can become lame by hard riding with out a warm up.
I was <Rainy Days> please don't take it

Just put a bit of contact on his mouth to remind him to keep his head where it's supposed to. If a horse stretches out it's neck that far chances are you don't have a whole lot of control over them. Most horses lift their heads up when they canter regardless, though. It's more natural for them and easier to balance. That's why you sometimes shorten your reigns before you canter, because some horse stick their heads right up and suddenly your reigns are loose and useless.
He might've just done that because he was extending his trot and that made him want to stretch out the rest of his body. I'd just ask the instructor next lesson, see what she has to say about it and work on getting him to lift his head. It's 3 in the morning here, my advice isn't worth crap. xD

That girl sounds a little like some of the people at my barn. Just because you have a lovely, willing little pony doesn't mean you just make it go go go the entire time.

If you don't have contact to his mouth and have your reins long when he does that, it's actually sort of a good thing and many would like their horses to do so. He's streching his back and neck when he goes low with his head and possibly lifts his back as well. We used that type of exercise on few lesson, just letting all the reins go and ride trot and some transitions. It's a good way to let the horse relax too. When horse puts it's head low it causes their brains to go into relax mode automaticly. Same thing with eating, if they have something to chew on they are not likely to bolt away.
Canter is different type of gait and recuires more pushing upwards from the hind and lifting from the front. Not the version I do with Heta where there's barely contact and she's quite long... Hence they are likely to keep their head higher. They can canter head low(from what I've seen in few youtube videos), but I've never really seen a horse do so. And usually if the head/neck goes lower it not as low as they can go in trot. I think in some western classes they want the horse go low with their head in canter... :?: I'm not sure so someone who knows, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Looking at horses moving in pasture or otherwise freely you can see how they would naturally move. In trot their head can be from high up to almost ground level, while usually in canter/gallop neck doesn't go lower than their back. Being the pray animal keeping head high gives them better chance of seeing the dangers and also their throat is higher and safer that way. I think it's like that... For example, when you are riding and the horse get's spooked/tense/etc. it's head and neck go higher than they would generally keep them.
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...
