Yeah I know I used to have problems with that wit a horse I used to ride. To be honest my horse is only 4 and he works fine in the rain, I rode him on Sunday and he was as good as gold. It's just the other 4 year old I'm worried about haha, I'm sure he'll be fine though. I love working with the youngsters. It's better than going round on a riding school pony who knows what they are supposed to do all the time; with the younger ones you get to teach them =D

Hime wrote:@About others riding your horse: Heta was used on one or two lessons a while ago. First was an adult with riding experience but she hadn't taken many lessons so her riding skills needed some fixing. That was cool as they focused mostly on bending and other walk/flat work. On the next lesson there's a mother with her 3 daughters. Heta was under the youngest at first... I watched them once or twice, and was not always too happy with her hands. I know Heta can be unresponding in the mouth, but constant pulling ain't helping as she just leans on the bit harder. Plus after she had ridden Heta, I had to 'fix' somethings, like the mouth and responding to any aids basically. Then luckily Heta was put with the oldest girl, who is pretty good rider as my instructor has also let her ride her young horse. She looked much better on Heta, and liked to ride her too, atleast the second time when Heta was not being an ass. She also got her to yield better than I do('cause I suck at yields), which is a good thing. But generally I don't like Heta being ridden by others who are, how to say, not so good riders, atleast not very often. Same/better level as me I wouldn't mind so much.
Heta is an ex-lesson horse and can be ridden by little beginner kids, but they don't do her any good. Since I got her, I've worked to get her listen to smaller and smaller aids, so I would rather like her to stay that way too.

Weather really boosted up today, sunny and freakishly warm in the sun, like maybe 15C. We had a enjoyable trail ride, though there are still few fallen trees on the trails that we had to go around. Heta also stepped on my toes when I was checking the girth, thankfully I had steel toed shoes. But she has taken a habbit to sort of side step with her front legs when ever I'm doing the girth, couple times nearly stepping on my toes as well... Now days she rarely tries to bite though, so some improvent has happened with saddling

Your lucky, the weather here is horrid. Just went to do some on-foot jumping in the rain =/

Yeah I hate in-experienced people riding your horse. It just messes up everything you have attempt to fix about your horses' way of going -.-

Why is Lopey chained, so to speak?

He's in the crossties so we can tack him up. ^^ Chance is too, he was waiting there in between lessons.

Hi, I have a big problem when riding... My hands they move around WAY to much they, according to my teacher, instead of being held up they twist inward and all over the place. I don't notice it all the time, I do look down sometimes and they barely wiggle but I think when I look I relize it then stop for a tiny bit but pick it back up when I go back to focasing on doing what ever we are doing.

I had issues with moving my hands around a lot too; it basically just takes practice, and concentration. Try keeping your elbows in when you ride, and resting your hands just on, or right above their withers. It's not ideally where you want them to be, but that might help to stop them moving so much. Also remember your thumbs should always be facing towards their ears. It might be worth your while to just take a full lesson and do flatwork, and just work on quieting your hands and getting the right position. ^^

Thanks, I know that I use to put my hands closer to me then more above the withers and so when my teacher told me this I started to look down more and I think that helped some.

I am really happy! I had a lesson Monday (I know about 2 days ago), and this one person who just recovered recently from falling and breaking what seems to me a lot (like shoulder ribs that kind of stuff) of bones was on Dundee and he started to kick Noah, I did not see alot of this, and no one fell off so that is good...Anyways not why I'm happy, I've probly told you this before like a million times But, this time is for sure: I'm afically leaseing Logan, only for May, in like a week! Sad thing: He is normally busy Tuesdays and Saturdays (Not a big deal on Saturdays 'cause I have lessons that day) So I don't get to ride tuesdays but I will be able to ride any other day of the week!

I would say what Hekomi did, keep your elbows bent. Keeping your elbows bent will help a lot with this problem. I think I used to have a slight issue with my hands moving, and when my trainer kept saying to bend my elbows more I fixed it. I think that if you bend your elbows more it should help keep your hands still. Also, be sure you keep your thumbs on top of the reins :3 Hope this helps <3 Good luck fixing the problem ;D

On the subject of the weather, it's finallly getting a bit better :D It was a bit rainy yesterday but today is ment to be overcast but the sun's out and the sky looks mainly clear :D I'm hopefull XD Donny's paddock wasn't as bad as what I thought it would have been yesterday and the arena looked fairly dry in some places and I was talking to another girl who rode and lunged her horse so hopefully it will be dry enough on the week end. I was really happy that he was keeping himself clean though! He was barely muddy at all! I think know he is a bit of a princess and doesn't like to get dirty XD It's a pretty good thing though because it lowers the risk of him getting mud fever :) I won't have a chance to work Donny tonight because I'm helping at school and tomorrow Mum and I are going to see the ciropractor XD

And the subject of other people riding your horse I agree with you Hime. Especially if the horse has some issues with aids or your working to try teach him something new or fix little issues. I don't mind as much if the person riding is the same level or better than me, but it annoys me when beginners ride XD Like Tank for example, he gets really hard in his mouth and strong, head in the air and hollow backed sometimes, so I spent a good deal of the first weeks of term getting him nice and soft and listening. Anyway they use Tank for the more experienced beginner people, which is good because he is so bombproof and pretty easy to ride. I had one week off so Tank didn't get his little tune-up and I got on him the week after and he was back to pulling/leaning on the bit, refusing to go round, not bending or flexing -.- He's not my horse though so I can't pick and chose who rides him and he is a really good school horse but he just needs people to get off his mouth sometimes XD
Tonight after the lessons finish we're going to talk to the instructors about leasing Donny to them as a schoolie. Should be interesting. They've seen me ride him and bring him over and stuff and said that he looked like he was pretty quiet and they probably could use him and stuff and he's improved so much since then :3 It would be good if they could because it lowers the cost of keeping him and it will be easier to ride in the winter months becuase we have an indoor at least. I'm a bit worried about it though. I'm probably just being silly though, but the main instructor is a bit intimidating when she puts her serious voice on XD It feels like she is staring into your soul and you can't tell if you did something wrong or not XD I'm a bit iffy on who should/will ride him though. Like you could put the more confident beginners on him no problem in an arean because he's pretty bombproff and just plods along unless you really tell him to get up and go but I probably wouldn't just because he is 16hh and he does have his moments on the ground and unless you show him your incharge he'll probably refuse to move XD And I really don't want people to ride him and not insist he goes into the corners and bend or they pull his mouth and make him dead to the legs. His mouth is really soft and he doesn't like much pressure and will raise his head if you hold the reins to tight, which is NOT what I want. I want his head down so he can't start to work a bit more under himself and stuff. Also I wouldn't let any ride him with a whip just because he is wary of them and unsure about what happens with them. Like I can ride him with a whip to just re-inforce the leg aids but if you tap him hard he spooks and gets worried. You literally can just lay it on him and he gets up, I wouldn't want someone to fall off and tramatize (That really isn't the right word but I couldn't think of anythign else) him becuase they wacked him to hard. There are just lots of positive and negatives. And I'll stop there because I've written you guys a story XD Sorry and have a cookie if you actually read all that XD And thank you if ou reply and share your thoughts <3 Sorry for the noovel again ^^;

Howie is really funny he is usually a little snarky and today the vet was here to test one of the horses for LyME and see one of them had any promles with there legs .

The vet was like "I love that pony he is great."
And my barn friend was tacking him up while I was getting on my stuff and she said "Sometimes noddy."
Howie was being an angle
Then our vet and he is a he was like "Good pony." and then "I din't mean it in that way I meant that he is a good pony aoher wise."

Howie was an angle there and in the ring he stop at a jump my cult but he did a really dirty stop and that can hurt me so I sacked him on the but and he gallop on I stop him and then that woke him and me up and we did really good after that.
