Hi, everyone! I ran a writing contest a while ago and really enjoyed the results. I'm in the mood to read something again, so I've decided to hold another, very similar contest. Just be sure to read the contest guidelines and post away!

Instead of having only one winner like last time, though, I'll be picking two winners: one for poetry and one for prose, so you can enter whichever category you are most comfortable with (or both, if you wish.) I will also pick one runner-up from each category, and those people will receive three pets of their choice from my trade group. Prize information is here.

You can also submit writing in German if you aren't comfortable writing in English. Du kannst auf Deutsch schreiben, wenn du willst. Just ask me if you need help with anything/Wenn du Hilfe mit etwas brauchst, frag mich. I'm studying German and always welcome some extra practice. c:


The final date to submit entries is Sunday, July 20, 2014 at midnight, Eastern Daylight Time (UTC/GMT-4). No late entries will be accepted, so be sure to post on time! Good luck!


If you like to make art, I also have an art contest here. Any form of art is welcome. The deadline is July 27th as well.


Edit 1: Since I haven't gotten very many entries yet and I'm hoping for at least 4-5 or so in each category before I judge them, I've decided to extend the deadline another week in case people need more time. That means, you have until Sunday, July 27 at midnight my time (see above) to enter the contest!

The guidelines are simple:

• Please specify which category you would like to enter (poetry or prose) at the top of your post. You may enter one writing piece for each, but you can only win for one. (Meaning, if you submit a story and a poem, you won't win twice even if I thought both entries were the best.)
• You may change your entry at any time by editing your original post (please do not make a whole new post so the thread doesn't get too cluttered.)
• You can write about anything you want. The only restriction is that everything must be child-friendly, of course; if it's not allowed elsewhere in the forum, it's not allowed here. I would also appreciate if you don't do fan fiction because I might not know the original. For those of you who would like something to start from, there are a few prompt suggestions here.
• Try not to go over 1000 words. I don't really mind if you write more, but I'm afraid I don't have the time to read a whole book per person, so please keep your entry a reasonable length. Remember, the longer the submissions, the longer it will take me to judge them.
• Everything must be your own work. If I find out your entry was copied from someone else, you will be disqualified and reported for art-theft. Please keep things fair for everyone and trust your own writing abilities!
• Please be considerate of everyone and do not complain if you don't win. Congratulating the winner and/or offering encouragement to those who did not win is always a kind gesture once the contest is over.
• Feel free to post questions or comment on other people's entries (just remember to be constructive!) You can also PM me anytime if you want to say something privately.

I'm judging more for content than anything else, so you don't have to be the new Shakespeare in order to win. All skill levels are welcome! Here is an overview of what I want to see:

• Creativity
• Effort
• An attempt at good grammar, spelling, punctuation

It's fine if you make some mistakes with grammar, spelling, etc. Nobody's perfect, and I know a lot of people here are not native English speakers. I just don't want entries that look like you typed whatever and couldn't care less about it.

Again, you can write whatever you want, or you can get inspiration from these prompts:

• You can spend one day with any person of your choice, living or dead. Who do you choose and what do you do with him/her?
• You found a mysterious golden box floating in the river near your home. You open it and find what inside?
• You wake up one morning and find yourself in a different time period, either in the past or future. What do you do?
• A character from your favorite fictional story knocks on your front door. What do they want?
• Your plane or boat crashed onto a deserted island. How will you survive? (original, I know)

The two winners will each have their choice of up to two pets from this group (I use that group for all contests and auctions, so please make sure the pets you want are marked "Writing Contest Prize.")

Alternative prize: Instead of receiving pets, the winners may choose to have me write them a short story (approximately 800-1000 words, or shorter if you wish) on the topic of their choice. You can read samples of my writing here. I'm best with fantasy and historical fiction, but I enjoy trying my hand at something different every so often, too. If you want me to write about your own character(s), please have a detailed description of their personality, appearance, likes/dislikes, etc. for me to work from.

The two runners up will each have their choice of up to three pets from Unknown Rarity Trades, Regular Trades, or a combination of the two.

Note: all prizes will be first come, first serve. My trade pets may also change between now and the end of the contest, so I apologize in advance if the runners up do not get exactly the pets they wanted. There are a lot of doubles, so hopefully this will not be a problem.

Boop, I'm entering. This may not be the best, as this is coming right off the top of my head.

I am waiting. Waiting for her to come out. Why did I tell her to attack? Why? It could of killed her. Well, it already did kill her. My sister. Dapple, a pretty little tortoiseshell cat. She was around twenty-four moons old, and she was dead. It was hardly fair, that I got to live my life and she couldn't. Something would have to be done. Deathberries! a voice screamed in my mind. "Well, that would work quite nicely..." I muttered to myself, before I was interrupted by a fluffy white she cat, running towards me. "What?" I snapped. Cloud looked sad, and I prepared myself for the worst. "She's dead," she began to say, but I never heard it. I was already gone.
I run, run to the Deathberry bush. I have to go join my sister in StarClan. I slow down, I can see the bush. My frown turns into a smile, as I tear a berry off the bush. "I'm coming, Dapple," I whisper to the stars, before popping the berry into my mouth.
The berry tastes better than I expected, and I eagerly swallow it. I crawl under the Deathberry bush, and lay down. I can feel my self getting dizzier, and i know I don't have to much time. My vision begins to blur, and I close my eyes. That's odd, I can hear voices. They seem to be saying something.

When the Dapple has wasted away
And the Shade won't come out to play
It's over, their dead, their gone
Darkness will regain.

My eyes shoot open. I made a mistake, I need to get the berry out of my system. I cough, but it won't come out. My vision blurs, and the world begins to spin and darken. It's over, I think to myself. I'm to far gone.
As I close my eyes, and take my last shuttering breath, I whisper two words, two last words that everyone will remember me by. My world goes black, as my soul slips away, and I remember those two words.

"I'm sorry."

That was better than I expected.
