FAVORITE PLACE
She sighed contentedly and stared up at the dark sky. She was in her favorite place. Down below, seagulls soared through the spray from the waterfall. Cascades of water poured down, splashing onto the rocks below with a steady crash. She had been coming there since she was five, with her mother, and it hadn't changed since. With its picturesque view and memories, both good and bad. Her first time there, she had been terrified of falling. She had stayed as far from the edge as possible, until her mother sat calmly on the edge and began to sing. She had always loved her mother's voice, a perfect soprano when needed, tenor when necessary. Fascinated and under the spell of her mother's voice, the young girl had slowly stepped forward, until she stood at the edge. At first, she was afraid, until she realized the majesty of the place. She had stared around in awe, and had been coming ever since with her mother. That is, until they died. It was awful. A horrible accident. No one was to blame. Driving home one wintry night, her mother singing along to a song on the radio, the girl writing fervently in a notebook, her father driving the car. Suddenly, there had been a sharp squeal, and a snap, and the car went sailing into the lake. The same lake that the girl stood over now. Well, her ghost, at least. None of them had survived, and yet the girl was the only one who didn't pass on. And so, she spent her days here, in her favorite place, among the birds and spray from the waterfall.
She sighed and sat down, then began humming the melody to her mother's favorite song. Her father had always said her voice was as beautiful s her mother's. . . After a moment, she heard a noise behind her, and spun around quickly. Someone was coming. She stood up quickly, surefooted despite her fear. After a moment, someone stepped out into the light.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were here. I'm Elodie." the girl who had just shown up said, laughing nervously. The ghost girl stared at her. "You. . . You can see me?" she asked disbelievingly. Elodie nodded, looking at the spirit like she was crazy. "Of course I can see you." she replied. "But why? How?" the spirit asked. Elodie frowned. "What do you mean. . .?" she asked. The spirit sighed sadly. "I'm dead." Elodie gasped as the spirit continued. "And, I think you're dead too."
Hey, I hope you like it!
