COMMUNITY POLL: Rare Monthly Pets

I chose 'I am not interested' because, beyond swapping for monthlies/events I do not trade.
So unless I got extremely lucky adopting it, I probably wouldn't get it. So yeah. ^^

I see potential in this, but also no. Unless it's excluded from Dec 18th, it seems a bit... pointless? But, at the same time, excluding this from Dec 18th is also just adding to the already present issue.

I was gone from late 2018-early 2022. I literally had to cough up store pets from pre-2014, pets from 2009-2010 (including Malks!), and frankly all my old fodder for monthly pets that were mostly below uncommon. Pets that, in terms of value, are so useless they don't re-release. Keep in mind, I still adopted monthly pets, I just missed some outcomes! Outcomes that mostly weren't special! I wasn't missing everything and I still had to overpay so badly! FOR MONTHLIES!

Even now, I have to cough up C$ every month for monthlies that are never more than uncommon at max. Commonly it ends up being pets who are VC to common, or even lower. So 1-4C$ for a pet that ends up being valued at .50C$ or less. This is usually 3-5 pets per month. That's not a massive loss until you factor in this is literally monthly and it's usually 3-5 pets minimum.

I have to do this to get them. The longer you wait = the better chance you'll have at not finding it.
And if this pet turns out uncommon and you didn't get it... you're screwed.
Do I need to bring up how the rainbow PPS cub from this year, people were spending 50C$ for it?
How about the pet rock?
Notice how both are not rare?
Notice how pets who are rare are valued at 15C$?


It's nice the staff can hear us saying there's an issue with rarity distribution and in general issues with user overvaluing for no reason other than pure greed. But releasing new, limited pets that are month exclusive defeats the entire purpose of a problem that is attempting to be fixed. You're basically throwing lighter fluid on a fire.


The most helpful thing would be two December 18th styled days or more boxes/higher adopt limits on December 18th. This can promote more greed, sure, but it also evens the playing field for people who get two new URs back-to-back FOR FREE and the person that got a free, 2009 VR rat that no one wants but they should be thankful for. Yes, this actually happened (I know because I saw it!).

I'm surprised so many people are expressing being against this, I think it would be a lot of fun! I'd probably be less likely to miss a month's litter due to the excitement of seeing which outcome might become rare, otherwise, I just sort of log in once or twice a year for big events and get pretty much all I need + fodder to trade for any old monthly outcomes that catch my eye. Personally, even if I don't win the monthly litter lottery I don't mind all that much, I'm far more interested in seeing which cool pets get delegated with shiny new rarity bars- I'll only hunt the outcome down if I'm REALLY into it. But that might be where I differ from other collectors, I'd rather I "miss out" on this cool new thing and let other people enjoy it than take away the fun for everyone on the off chance that I'm down on my luck for that month.

I understand where people are coming from about it being discouraging to have poor luck with things like this, but I can't see this as anything but a positive on that very front. This would give more opportunities for people to get lucky. I waited almost six years for any good outcomes from dec 16. Sure, that made me feel a little down on my luck each year, but it was so rewarding when the wait finally paid off, and I learned to appreciate any and all kinds of luck with my monthlies, got every outcome of a small litter? Awesome! Got dupes of my favorite outcome? Epic!

I think it would be great to have more chances to make things interesting. Dec 18 and other similar events are only exciting because the odds are against you, but the potential is amazing, so I don't see how this would be any different, just a little extra spice to our monthly pets <3

Whatever staff decides to go with I'm excited to see what gets cooked up as always, thanks to everyone for your hard work!

i kind of fell out of love with adopting normal monthly pets because of the lack of rarity between them. the designs are always gorgeous but on a website like this, getting rare pets and trading them is one of the main appeals. im still super active for event pets and dec 18th, but having more frequent surprise rares would be super fun

I worry this would just cause even more headache, especially for anyone that gets anxiety with trading
I know trading is the main point of the site, but people get pretty crazy for certain pets and it's very stressful already during events, I don't want to imagine that monthly

On the other hand, I would love to see more variety between monthly pets, and think a small rarity increase could be acceptable, but it's also already difficult to trade for monthly uncommons
I'm on the fence but foresee myself playing much less if I start missing out on even more pets every month because a litter decides to give me all lowest rarity outcomes (happened with those accidental rats a while back)

I personally really love it when a random monthly pet turns rare, makes it feel extra fun and special! I'd definitely say only a few times each year though, if it was super common it kinda loses the neatness of it and then doesn't feel as rare ^^

Also, it would be nice to keep it low key, such as the 2022 pps october rat.

A low key rare might help the trade anxiety for some who like to trade before rarities. As I definitely know that those with flashy monthly rares, like the golden gachapon dog, were bombarded with trade offers.

i'm sorry, but i don't completely understand this. i've been trading around the same time as you (early 2022 and onwards) and i have never experienced having to overpay as far as '09 malk rares for regular run of the mill monthlies. honestly, when it comes to people overpricing their pets, all we, as players, have to do is just decline their trades? i eventually find people who will trade their pets to me for a much more fair price and it honestly doesn't usually take that long. if someone wants that much of ridiculous overpay i just cancel. if you don't like having to overpay so much for pets, you can cancel? /gen
like, no one is making you pay those types of prices. there are plenty of people on site who trade their pets fairly and i think that's something people are missing here. yes it can be hard to trade for some pets because of how some people value them due to demand and how much people want them but there are a whole bunch of people who are Normal about the game and wouldn't ask for ridiculous offers.

The popular outcomes are hard enough to get due to pure sky high demand. No reason to make it even more difficult.

As Long as it doesn’t happen in 2023 I’m all for it lol, I just don’t want to have got this far through a complete year collection to have an even worse time completing it

I immediately thought no. It’s just cause I’ve realized that I get a bit anxious around trading so crazily, especially around events, sometimes I’m like glad the event Is over since it’s so much sometimes. I absolutely love the events and get super excited for them! But grinding for candies and trying to get all the outcomes was stressful when I first did it (I don’t want anything to change btw) just that I already hate trading monthly pets as they’re growing (or any growing pet) cause it’s a worry that I’ll be trading a non-double away. I usually wait till the month is over to trade pets I missed and often they even gain their rarity by then!!

People would also catch on that the pet is rare and you’d having people trying to hoard it which just isn’t fun (
Like I was active 24/7 last Halloween and I still never got the dragon pet and now it’s rare and I’m gonna have to wait or like try hard to get it
Plus I haven’t seen anyone with it for trade ( even while the event was going, everyone knew it was scarce so they wouldn’t trade it away for other event pets during the event.
