COMMUNITY POLL: Rare Monthly Pets

It seems like pets labeled with the rare or above stamps are all that a lot of users on the site care about, so giving newer players a chance to get them through normal play outside of holiday seasons would be a really good balancing move

i was starting to regret my vote for at least one every month, but this convinced me. i think to start out with there should be more frequent rare pets, just to offer newer players a chance to get some actually tradeable pets. after a while, rare releases could become more infrequent.

The problem with having these rare releases is how many people are going to get two, so they can actually use one as trade fodder? (And i'm saying that as someone who apparently did get two of that gold gacha dog thing.)

Even with one every month, your just as likely to miss out on both, get one of each (but miss the next one) or any combination. Ultimately i don't think it will help.

{ I didn't vote for every month, but I like the idea here :0c this paired with one or two more December 18th events through the year would at least scrape the surface of the trading issues here imo. maybe the slower months [between Easter & summer and then between summer & Halloween?] could have more frequent rares and then taper off the other months? ♡

I feel others have expressed my thoughts well enough:

As a completionist, I don't think I'm very interested in the idea. It was hell getting the Valentine's lion, and even just the May 2022 PPS macaw. It's more stressful than fun trying to complete a litter with a hard-to-get outcome. I hate having to post in the threads 50+ times over a period of weeks before finding the one I need just because a lot fewer are released. So I'll have to say no to having more stress and fewer pets in my collection.
It's fun to trade for a slightly rarer outcome, not a "significantly" rarer outcome.
Also, this seems like it'll screw over people with busy schedules who don't have time to spend hours looking for someone willing to trade the rarer pet, as well as newer members who don't have enough trade fodder to get the rarer pet.
Editing to add this, so I don't make an entire new post: I see a lot of people mentioning that yes they'd want this, because having pets that are a "little rarer" and harder to get is fun. But Simon specifically used the phrase "SIGNIFICANTLY rarer" and used the AUGUST PPS as an example. Why would anyone want a repeat of that lol.
So I hope the mods take into account everyone's concerns instead of just looking at the poll. Plenty of people are voting yes because they're misled or didn't read through the post all the way, and plenty of people are voting yes but then commenting "yes but if it's not too rare".
Also, people are gonna inflate the heck out of the new rarer pets just because they'll KNOW it's likely one of the new rare outcomes.

If I'm reading between the lines, it's an attempt to help fix the trading system and/or continue to avoid releasing pet numbers.
Going by past rare releases, we're going to see people pay 2009 Rares, old store pets, etc for brand new rares.
Making this happen more often seems like a bad idea, it doesn't fix anything and just enforces the ridiculous problems with rarity vs demand and other nonsense that CS trading is.
Unfortunately I'm going to say no.

That is a no from me as well. I don't mind something like the gold dog once a year thing, but absolutely not the PPS lion.

A big no to something like the zebras. We already have one day for people to get ALL the other UR pets and I feel it's getting out of hand. Instead, release the other UR pets we already have in the monthly releases in small amounts like the zebras.

I wanted to add on that we already have pets several times a year that have more demand than the rest of the litter, usually PPS pets. The demand alone is enough for these pets is enough to do some heavy lifting. I have personally had people offer me older pets for some monthly pets or special event pets like the rock. There's absolutely a chance like these for new people to get rares without there having to be rare monthly pets.

i'm not going to lie, i was under the impression this recent staff litter would have a rare+ pet.
i could've sworn there was a suggestive message on the adoption page that made me believe so... but i possibly just skimmed and misread it. i was very excited and i'm happy this poll was posted so i can add my 2 cents!
i think if you do about 5/12 litters a year with a chance of a rare, it would be easy to sneak in surprises if the community would like more.

the only reason i think every month would be an issue is it would only make it harder to make your way up to "very rare"+ pets.
people will view them as less valuable, which is something the new rarity system was trying to combat.

also might i suggest giving these new litter rares to popular species like dogs, cats, deer, or anything that stands out. there was a rare rat somewhat recently which i loved as a surprise, but i don't think it got the recognition it deserved because of its species and similar design to the other rats.

things like the space event, carnival event, and the recent camping event: one or two designs that are obscure or even just a pretty palette will create demand for it. demand is huge on chicken smoothie and to make it easier for new players to get older pets, these new rares need demand that comes from their designs.

I wonder if this could possibly be a compromise? It would bring more people online every month, more potential trade fodder for newbies, more rares in circulation, etc. The difference is it makes the URs slightly easier for people to achieve, instead of making monthly pet collections almost impossible. That's just my 2 cents though, maybe the admins don't want URs to be any easier to get.

My OCD will kill me if this happens. :0 I still can't get the extremely rares from the past litters (like the august lion) even if i'm willing to trade my old rares for them. Well, I have only "old rares", not the very popular outcomes that aren't even achievable during 18th december (or that's just my misfortune that I always get some low-demand rares then...?).

I wonder if this could possibly be a compromise? It would bring more people online every month, more potential trade fodder for newbies, more rares in circulation, etc. The difference is it makes the URs slightly easier for people to achieve, instead of making monthly pet collections almost impossible. That's just my 2 cents though, maybe the admins don't want URs to be any easier to get.

I like this idea as well, especially applied to pets VR and up, adding a day or two of extra dec18 days across the year or adding a small chance of VRs+ appearing through regular adoptions zebra style.
Rereleasing Rares has the unfortunate effect of potentially making them uncommon (/extremely uncommon), which would be a shame for those who get one expecting it to stay rare, but it would be a great way to re-introduce some very rare-omgsr pets into the economy and Actually help newbies, unlike adding new rares. Most of their value has grown out of hand, and so many are locked away in collections/hoards anyway, so adding more of them to the trading scene would benefit everyone.
