No, there was a big drama a couple of years back (that ate my second SF Day :D) about the validity of settling, which led to a big discussion thread where everyone gave their opinions...

It was called Sound-Off: Settling, or something similar. There was definitely a discussion abut the out-of-dateness of TDP because someone, Kallisti maybe, started sending PMs to everyone to collect views on the 'Schools of Daemonism' (I think) which were basic descriptions of the different versions of daemonism, spiritual, HDM, there was a 'neo-daemonism' I think xD etc etc, to be put on TDP or stickied on the forum. I should dig the PM up. Nothing ever came of it though.

I don't think I ever got that PM ;-; The only time I've been remembered for a mass PM was The Drama :P I'd love to read it if you've still got it :)

You know sometimes when you have to do some homework and skive off, you say to yourself "I really should do some work..." or when you have to get out of bed you try and force yourself by going "come on come on come on!"

What daemianism is is taking the voice you have in your head and splitting it into too parts. So instead of telling yourself to do work, you take those words and put them into the voice of an imaginary friend. This imaginary friend could take any form you like, and is just like every other imaginary friend, apart from it "speaks" with half of your internal monologue, turning that monologue into a dialogue. Like I said, what it looks like is up to you, whatever you feel comfortable with or as whacky as you like - afterall it's your imagination!

When people on this thread say "my daemon is a rex rabbit" what they're actually talking about is a form of personality typing, like in your sig where it says your colour is blue. This is the second and important part for daemonism ("seeing" and "hearing"your daemon is optional) What we do is we look at real animals and their characteristics and think of those as metaphors for human traits. Rabbits are prey and so have to be alert and wary, so someone with a rabbit daemon would be cautious, plan for every eventuality and could, if unhealthy, be prone to anxiety. You find this form by thinking about yourself a lot and people help you find one that matches - it's a community thing. You are settled (or very stable) as an animal when your personality has cemented itself in, usually late teenage to early adult years, but this isn't a fixed thing. What form you see your daemon isn't the form that describes your personality per se, but some daemians prefer their daemon to take that form because it's easier for them.

When you project your daemon, how does he or she "appear"?
Usually, I hear Jingx before I see him, and I'll look at one place and he'll just be... there. He doesn't materialize or anything, he just appears out of no where. There's really no other way to describe it...

Well, I imagine him being in my environment and then I can kind of trick my eyes into him being there. I can always "sense" where he would be if he was real. It's like he controls the projection from my mind to do what he would have done, y'know? Projecting his warmth and weight and the feel of his fur is much easier for me then actually trying to "see' him there, though.

I thought I remembered Kris saying she did want to change the site, or was at least open to the idea, since it was misrepresentative of the daemian community and could mislead new members? I mean, look at how many people we have coming to TDF still using "wei" and thinking those analyses are the be all and end all of them settling >>; I may just be remembering wrong, but iI thought that was the whole reason the started up the Sound Off: [thing] thread - so the community could voice their individual opinions and come to a consensus that would eventually be put up on TDP?
