Aww someone just made a mustelidae club here. I wish there were enough mustelids on TDF for an actual mustelid club. Sarah, Sanna, Mickey, myself, the otters dotted about...that is very few. I wish to rival the canines damnnit D:<

PROCYONIDS SAY, WUT WUT? TDF has a quidditch team of ringtails (That's seven - all of them are seekers. We couldn't get them to stop chasing the shiny), and the three coons with me/Five/Sean. Kathleen the Olingo, and there WAS a newbie with kinkajou, but I didn't think they stuck around. We need a coati, Also another kinkajou, probably.

BUT PROCYONIDS ARE AWESOME AND THE ONLY ONE MOST PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT ARE RACCOONS. And only the one species. I want to be a pygmy coon just for EDJUMACATION. Pygmy coons are critically endangered, and all. Also the P. lotor island subspecies are endangered. But they're only subspecies. That's like subhuman, or something. >,>;;

But it's okay, Liz, we'll always have the MEPHMVMABCotherletters alliance. Man, at this point, it'd be easier to say non-canine/feline small carnivorans. xD

That shouldn't stop you :D We have the Viv Brigade (me, Kizz, Sarah, Nina, Petra, Ida, Wolfheart, Hannah and whoever else is being a genet viverrid at the moment), Team Paradoxurinae (me, Nina, Petra and the new bintie whose name I should remember) and my personal Army of Bearcats (me, Nina, Petra and the new bintie whose name I should remember).

We need non-bearcat paradoxurinae civets :( How are they not more popular forms, they're all stunning.

This is the weird thing - no one off the street knows what olingos and genets are and yet there is a much greater variety of viverrids and procyonids on the forum than the well-loved little mustelids. ;o; Oh, well, unless you count the very many newbies who have thought they were ferrets. >> We're actually quite poorly represented. ): !

I think that's how I pronounce it as well? Scott rhymes with caught, Scut with butt. They have similar ending and beginning sounds, but not middle. I usually love doing phonetic translations, but the aardvark analysis I did last night killed my brains.

On topic: Maybe the reason there aren't many musteys is the connection with Lyra? I mean, at first people say they're ferrets/martens to be like Lyra but then are shied away. That or you're too super awesome? Lagomorphin Rangers for the win ;).

The Lyra thing: probably, yeah. I'd say it is the same with wolves, exccept the opposite; people are like OMG I'm LIK A WOLF CAUZ THEY IZ SO KEWLZ! And then they find out they are not, XD.

Andrea: For the English, 'Scott' is /skɒt/ like 'what' or 'rot'. In Scotland and presumably America, it does rhyme with 'caught': /skɔːt/. I can't think off the top of my head whether Scottish people say 'scut' and 'butt' the same way, as in most places to the north 'but' is /bʊt/ like 'foot' as opposed to /bʌt/, and I think scut is always ʌ (otherwise it would sound like 'scoot' and I don't remember Scut ever saying it that way irl...)

So I have to memorise the IPA for class .___. and this totally counts as revision?
