Yeah, they are a bit mainstream but the singer is probably one of the nicest human beings on the planet. Same with the Madden twins in Good Charlotte. I like bands where I can get into the music and totally understand where they're coming from, and it kind of matters to me what kind of people the members are. I mean, in the end, music is music, but I like to have someone to relate to and someone to look up to in a sense. But yeah, David Cook is my man, he can really rock out xD He has an amazing voice, my mom and I love him. I like that though, we bond over David and Train ^^ Also, if you haven't already, you should listen to Little Things, Movin' On and The Click by Good Charlotte. I absolutely love those songs ^-^

Oh, and yes, Mayday Parade sings that song lol

And if you care to continue reading, I've learned a lot from Good Charlotte and Green Day as people and as musicians. That's why I love them. The music isn't just pleasing to my ears, I've also learned a lot from their songs and can totally relate to most of them. xD They are downright my two favorite bands on the planet :D ( I feel like I'm going to end up like my step mom's sister... she's been chasing down Bon Jovi with her friend since they were my age. They go to the concerts whenever they're local, they're kind of obsessed really, it's never died down. I'm probably going to be that way when I'm older :lol: )

Hahaha, I love Bon Jovi.. :3

But yeah, I am totally with you on the good people and relateable music thing. Have you heard of Jack's Mannequin or Something Corporate? They are both fronted by Andrew McMahon, my idol. He was diagnosed with leukemia, and he is so inspirational. They made a movie about him called Dear Jack, and I was crying through the whole thing. He is just such a beautiful person, and he founded the Dear Jack Foundation to raise money for young adults with cancer. I love how alot of Jack's Mannequin's music really shows his struggle, but is relateable to everyone because he somehow ties it in to something everybody understands. Like you mentioned, I can learn alot of lessons about courage and life from his music. I literally even cry from his music it is so relateable and powerful. (He was younger in Something Corporate, so he wasn't diagnosed yet and their music doesn't reflect his situation as much, but it is still good.) I'm not sure if you would like it, it's more of a pop-ey alternative type than Green Day and Good Charlotte. And I am gonna shut up about it now, because otherwise I will keep talking about him for hours, but the link to my introduction post has more information about Andrew and the Dear Jack Foundation, if you are interested. If not, carry on listening to your good music. :3

I will definitely have a look into that. My cousin who's like a sister to me because we're only four months apart in age was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. It was tough but she stayed strong and got through it. My grandma had breast cancer too. I'm sure I could totally relate to the music. I've never heard of him or the bands but I will deinitely have a look. Thank you for telling me about him c;

Yeah, my grandma died of breast cancer. He doesn't really directly sing about cancer, you can just tell that's what it's about if you know his story. It's hard to explain. Like... Here. Listen to this. Swim by Jack's Mannequin. What I get from this song is that he lost hope, but he is going to keep swimming in hope for something better, in hope to get past cancer. But then anyone who is in a dark time can use this as inspiration, so it becomes something more than a song about cancer. I think that is amazing.

No, I get what you mean. He sounds like a really great guy. David Cook's brother died of brain cancer and he has participated in many marathons and charity events. He's always doing something to help people in need out, he's just a great guy like that. That song is a really powerful one, I really like it. David wrote a song about his brother called Permanent that really touches me. I can relate to it real well, and, like the song Swim that you mentioned, it's become more than a song about cancer. It's hard to put into words excatly what I got from it, but maybe you can relate too. I really like that Jack's Mannequin song, I'm definitely going to put it on my ipod when I get the chance.

I listened to Permanent and I like it. Alot. I hate when people don't understand that there is meaning behind songs. I write music myself, it is nearly impossible to write a song without some personal experience to base it off of. Like my sister, she thinks Swim is a stupid song because it is about swimming, and I can't seem to get her to see that it's an analogy for fighting through tough times. There is another Jack's Mannequin song called Dark Blue that is kind of about feeling like you don't belong and you are alone, but she thinks it's about a color.. I hate how people starve themselves of life lessons that are best learned through music, in my opinion. But yeah, that is why I like music so much.

Yeah, my brother is the same way with songs like that. Sometimes even my mom hears a song and has no clue of the true meaning behind it and I have to sit there and kind of explain it to her. That it's more than just the lyrics she hears, but that it can be interpretted in many ways. Like she listened to the song No Pride by Green Day with me and immediately said "Well that doesn't sound like a very nice song." And I had to kind of explain the meaning of it to her and that it's about more than just having 'no pride'. It's a really meaningful song that I like a lot. I'm not really good at explaining things though so it was kind of hard to explain it to her xD It's like people do stupid things because of their pride and that the world is the way it is because people let their pride run their lives, but he's saying that he's not like them because he doesn't have pride. Or that he doesn't really have anything to have pride in. ( I'm pretty sure that's still a fail explination though xD )

No, that was a really good explanation! :) That's why I really don't like listening to the radio. Alot of mainstream songs have pretty much no meaning at all.. Like Tonight Tonight, TiK ToK, etc. They are just about partying and there is really no lesson to take away from them. A good song catches my attention because of the clever ways it teaches you something, not how many times it can swear and say meaningless lines to a tune. I always really remember a song for its meaning. That probably sounds stupid, but yeah. I also really like songs that really make you think about something you never questioned before, or even songs that you have to really think to figure out what they are about because the fact that a song makes you stop and think means it's good. :)
