The manager at my barn found a horse that might be right for me. His name is Oscar, and they said he did barrels before, but we're not really sure. I'll try him tomorrow, and if I like him, we might buy him in September. I'll post pictures later.

Here's some pictures I have of Oscar...

I think he's cute...I'll find out how good he is tomorrow though, when I ride him.

Oscar looks really cute Hunter. I hope things work out for you! :)
~~~
Today was the Fun Show. I think Cowboy and I did really well. I placed in the top three for five out of seven classes.
One blue, three reds, one yellow, one pink and one white.
The blue was in the Clipboard race.
Reds were in cloverleaf, poles and the flag race.
Yellow was in keyhole.
Pink was in Simon Says.
White was in Apple Bobbin'.
{ ^^Cowboy decided he wanted to try to pull the apple off the string, lol.^^}
~~~
Plus the other girl who rides with me, on the fancy Morgan horse,borrowed Cowboy. Jack, her horse, refused to even go through the gate from the holding pen to the arena. She rode Cowboy in the poles and got a blue -.-
~~~
My Mom paid quite a bit of money for me to go to a week long, overnight camp at the barn I ride at.
Since I was the only person who could attend the barn owner decided to cancel it. -.-
BUT, my instructor managed to convince him to let me use that money to lease Cowboy!!
Now I can ride him pretty much whenever I want, as long as my Mom's there. :D
{I'm leasing him from now until around Halloween :3 }
I'm so excited!
~~~
I watched a couple Julie Goodnight shows. I realized Cowboy rides better using lead rein instead of direct, if I'm trying to turn him with two reins. Plus I finally found out how to get him to canter. I squeeze with my outside leg on the "second button", push my reins forward, smooch and start moving my body like it would if he was actually cantering. I got him to canter 2 or 3 times, besides when he started cantering towards home after the barrels and the clipboard race.
I also got him walking over the bridge, turning inside the box without stepping out, backing and making 5,6 and 7 steps into the box. Now we just have to work on his trotting {which gave me super sore legs -.- }, turning and the gate. :)
Plus he loaded without a fuss and didn't refuse to get in his stall or enter the arena. <3

Saddly, Oscar didn't work out. He doesn't know his leads, and although his lope was comfortable on the few times he picked up the right lead, he just didn't feel like the right horse for me. I'm pretty sure he must've been a trail horse his whole life, because he was really sweaty half way through the lesson, and we weren't doing much more then trotting and trying to get him to pick up the correct lead. We could've gotten him trained, but again, he just didn't feel like the right horse.

~GAH, double posting again.. :oops:

I'm trying to find a nice barrel saddle, but I'm not sure which brands are reliable and will last a few years. I was told Double T is good...
Is this brand good? http://www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/1002/995200 I think it's called Blue Ridge Clayton, but I'm not always the brightest person in the world..

Pfft its ok Hunter. c:
Blue Ridges are pretty reliable, nice saddles. In fact that's the kind I've been using :lol:
I've heard Circle Y, Wintec and Cactus Saddlery have some good reliable saddles too.
Oh, and sorry Oscar didn't work out. Good luck and keep lookin'.

okay, thanks. My mom is making look on ebay and craigslist for cheaper bridles and stuff...not sure how trustworthy those are (wow, I have trusting issuses) so Im gonna just keep looking for a set that has saddle, breast collar, and bridle all in one...lol
by the way, where did you get the gif thingy for your sig? I keep trying to find one like that (with barrel racing though) but never manage to find a good one..

I've been looking in Jeffers' Equine magazine, they usually have some pretty nice tack for sale.
I found them on tumblr, saved them and uploaded it from tinypic.
Yeah, I have only found gifs of english riding and horses running, etc.
But I did find this one:

Awesome, thanks. And yeah, I hate how everything is English. It's hard to find a book about Western riding, and it's nearly impossible to find a place dedicated strictly to western, yet there are millions of places that are English riding only. =/
