Well, to be honest, yes. Its true in most cases. The more you believe in God, the more faith you have, and the more you are willing to give up for him, chances are, the more you will have to sacrifice
on earth.
People may make fun of you, or they may bully or hurt you, or bad things might just happen to you. Just look at Job, who lost everything. His family, his riches, all his things, and than he got boils, etc... and after it all, his family and friends said to curse God and end his misery....he stood and worshiped God instead.
Or how about that girl who was in a library, and some masked men came in. They put a gun to her head, and asked if she was a Christian... she replied yes without hesitation, and got killed.
But the more you are willing to sacrifice
on earth, the more riches you will receive
in heaven.
Temporary suffering, for Eternity in paradise.
However, if you don't think its worth it, or think Heaven may not be real, than just think of this, which I heard a while ago-
If I am wrong, and you are right, and there is no God... than I have lost nothing. I may have had to suffer for my faith, be it real or not, but it made me stronger.
Standing up for what I believed in made me stronger. Going to church made me learn about kindness and self sacrifice. And the friends I made along the way are something I wouldn't trade for anything.
So if I die, and I'm just... gone, and there is no after life, well, I believe I have made the best of my life. I wouldn't change a thing. I have lost nothing.
However if I am right, and you are wrong... you have lost everything. You may have had temporary pleasure, and you may still have learned to be strong, and kind, and may still have gained true friends.... but if you are wrong, and you die as all mortals do, than you will suffer an eternity in Hell.
Now of course I wouldn't want you to decide to stay Christian just as an insurance that you'll get into heaven if your right, or just... nothing if your wrong, because faith shouldn't be the same as insurance. But that was a statement that really hit home with me when I was struggling with becoming Agnostic or Atheist, and I thought you should hear it.
