Hey look I have an opinion again!
The thing that bugs me with forms is that they /could/ be really simple and still be the most awesome thing ever - people are just lazy or get overwhelmed with the idea (me!).
In my opinion and experiences, all you'll ever need to know is a character's history and appearance. I know people will start yelling about personality, but think about it. You are who you are because of where you are and how you got there. So long as you really think about this and take that in to account you should actually have a darn good profile for your characters. It also leaves you more ready to play the character, having just written down everything they've gone through and how they felt about it, you're pretty much in their head already.
Buuuut this is CS and not everyone takes writing as seriously as I do. X3 Sooo those detailed forms, when used right, make it easier for everybody else. I'm just as guilty of being lazily, I dont really want to spend four hours just for a RP characters when the RP might die in a few pages (it happens too much :C ).
IDK, in my ideal RPing world all RPs would actually take off and thrive and everyone would be as attached to their characters as I am and just as crazy as me about all this stuff.

Darkness, darkness everywhere, do you feel all alone?

All the light that you possess is skewed by lakes and seas
The shattered surface, so imperfect, is all that you believe

However if a roleplay had this form, I'd run a mile. I stick to character anyway, and frankly I couldn't care about my characters first memory. xD

My friend sent me that and I have it saved on my computer. I can't even fill it out about myself. We do use parts of the form for our own rps though. 8D I love it so much, because I like...figure out every single day of my character's lives. ;A; It's sad.

Oh God that's for personal use most definitely. XD I wouldn't think twice about joining the RP if that was the form LOL. I would prolly take like...half that, maybe a quarter to make a nice meaty form.

...and that is why I spend 2 years developing my characters, and reuse them, so I'm super attached to them. xD
I'm back. :^)

Yeah when I can use my oldies I'm the happiest person EVER! Just wish I kept their bios in a way that could be used over and over again without extensive typing XD

I completely agree. Plus, if other people are like me, the character's personality always turns out differently than how I write it in the form. They have minds of their own, sometimes :P

This. This exactly. *why I agonize over forms*
It must be really weird to hear me fill out forms and stuff... 'Okay, so you're SURE you're gonna act like this during the RP... right?!'

That happens to me! xD I'll write something in their personality one way and then it seems like they should do something different.

I don't like enormous forms, I perfer to keep it basic and develop the character in the roleplay, then use them again in another one. My characters that are the ones that people like the best are always ones that I've used in dozens of roleplays. Since I already have some of their character development done their forms end up longer.

Starbase Typhon is a roleplay run by me, off site. It is Star Trek based (but not the new movies, as you will see) and it definetly needs people who are willing to be active, write with great grammar, and of course, are semi-literate or above. Format is play by Nova, which involves multi-person posts that are a different way of doing things that here of CS. But it's lots of fun, and we need long term people who will help us complete our missions. As the commanding officer of Typhon, I invite anyone who would like to give it a try to please apply! (Warning that quality of applications is strictly judged. Very strictly judged.) The link is in the image.

I don't like writing long histories. Only a few of my characters have long ones, and they tend to conform to that roleplay only.

Sometimes I can stay in character from what I wrote in the personality though. Those tend to be the really eccentric characters such as Railyn.

I tend to use the same characters for everything, if I'm intested in using a new character I might throw it in a non-lit RP and develop it there before I actually use it...

I am natorious [I can't spell] for extremely long forms...
Hi. Sorry, but this account has kind of been done for years now.
Thank you for such a nice time on the site.
