Sample of writing:
The mission was simple -- secure the innocence, and clear out the Akuma.
But then it went dreadfully wrong.
Adeline Wong, currently age twenty-seven, was sent with three Finders to complete the relatively easy mission. She had grown to be one of the most skilled Exorcists, being a member for twelve years. She could have succeeded in being a general...if her body had allowed.
Gunshots echoed in her ringing ears. Screams of innocent bystanders ripped at her heart. ' The mission was supposed to be simple...! This wasn't supposed to happen! ' The woman gritted her teeth and sent one of her fans forward to slice off a level four's machine gun arm. It turned from the civilians it had been torturing and glared at her. She caught her fan as it returned to her hand.
" I'm the one that has the innocence! Why don't you attack me?! "
It raised its remaining arm and sent a barrage of bullets, blasting the buildings around. The Finders cowered behind their shields as Adeline launched herself into the air with one of fans, using the other to reflect the bullets and send them back at it. In one fluid motion, she returned to standing on the ground and sent a strong wind using both of her fans. The Akuma was slung against a building, but with reasonable damage. Adeline's legs were shaking by now, and a trace of blood was showing through her white socks. ' I have to act fast... ' Using the last of her strength, she ran forward ( albeit, stumbling ) and threw herself into the air, bending her knees and summoning all of her innocence's power. Her fans glowed an eerie green and they hardened to steel. The veins from Adeline's arms looked crystallized -- the innocence taking a toll on her body. ' Come on, innocence...Just a little more...! '
Taking her chance while the akuma was still down, she slung her arms as hard as she could and threw her fans forward at all speed. A cutting wind surrounded them as they spun toward their target. Adeline fell from the air like an angel from the heavens. Her legs crumpled beneath her and she collapsed to the ground in a bloody pile. Her arms were crystallized from the toll of the innocence, and her legs were shaking from the stress. She dragged in each breath of life and watched as the fans successfully hit the target. They both hit in the center of the akuma's body, impaling it through the core. It gave a sorrowful wail, and finally dissolved into dark matter. Adeline's fans returned to her hands as she managed to call them back and reach her arms out. " Innocence...deactivate. " Her fans were once again returned to their original state of a single, creamy colored Chinese fan. She gave a final glance to her uniform pocket, where the retrieved innocence was safely tucked. The exorcist smiled warily and let herself fall into unconsciousness. She heard the Finders call her name, but simply couldn't stay awake any longer.

The soft beep of a computer monitor jerked her awake. Adeline's eyes snapped open, and she found herself in a hospital bed at the Order. She let out a sigh and her eyes wandered around the room. No one was in there, and her arms were still looking bad. When she tried to raise up, a pain shot through her legs. " ...Agh! " she cried with a cringe of pain.
" Oh! Miss Adeline! Please don't try to move! "
One of the Order's amateur doctors came to a sliding stop beside her bed. He must have come in when she wasn't paying attention. Adeline glanced up at him and let herself fall back into the bed.
" Sorry...I shouldn't have tried to move... " she said warily with a weak smile. The doctor frowned at her and proceeded to give her a long speech about how she should have known better. Adeline, in truth, hadn't been listening much to what he said, and simply nodded as he talked to his heart's content. She was paying more attention to her arms. When she ran her fingers along them, they felt scale-y to the touch -- much like a snake's skin. " Will they heal...? " she asked with a frown.
The doctor snapped to attention at her abrupt question. " Oh, certainly! Just stay off of the battle field for a while and don't be too hard on yourself! You'll be good as new then. " But even while he said such cheerful words, there was sad look in his eyes...like he was only saying those words, and not that they meant anything.
" Ahem. " Adeline and the doctor's eyes wandered to the door, where a familiar face stood.
" Wong! " she said with a smile. He returned it, and motioned for the doctor to leave the room ( which he did, with much haste. many people couldn't stand Wong ). Adeline and Bak's nutty assistant were quite chummy, after they had gotten to know each other during a time when Adeline was stationed at the Asian branch. She found him to be a very nice man, who, even though he worried a lot, cared about his superiors with the bottom of his heart.
Wong flopped into a rolling chair beside Adeline's bedside with bandages and antiseptic in hand. " I heard you were awake, and came to change your bandages! " he said with a kind smile.
" Oh, thank you. Is Bak here on business? You usually aren't around HQ. " Wong nodded, and pulled the sheets from Adeline gently, since her arms weren't allowing her to do much.
As he rolled the sheets to the end of the bed, Adeline's heart dropped to her stomach. Her eyes widened and she put her hand over her mouth. Her feet were unbound and misshapen -- more than they were before. The bandages were yellow with infection, with traces of blood. " W-Wong...? What's wrong with them...?! " Adeline managed to choke out while keeping back the tears. She raised herself from bed and ran her hands along the broken skin. A broken bone brushed against her finger, and she recoiled with a disgusted look.
Wong's face dropped and his eyes averted to the ground. " They...didn't tell you yet? "
" Tell me what, Wong?! Please, tell me, what's really wrong with me?! " She cried between sobs. Adeline wiped away the tears, but they were soon replaced by more. Wong reached up his hand and wiped a stray tear from her red face.
" Y-You... " he stalled. " You aren't able to walk anymore. During your last battle...you pushed yourself too hard. The twelve years you have already fought added to the burden, and your bones...they couldn't take it, and broke under the pressure. "
Her heart pounded in her chest, and she gripped her fist so tight, she brought blood. " I can't...walk? You mean, they'll be better in a month or so, right...? Right?! " Wong was silent, and simply began to unwrap the bandages on her legs. He couldn't stand to look at that crying face, after breaking such news to her.
It took a while, but she calmed down while Wong soothed her as he replaced her bandages. He told her the Order wouldn't kick her out in the cold because she couldn't fight, and that she still had a place in the Order. Bak came to get his assistant when it was time to leave, and gave Adeline a pitiful look. She had dark circles under her eyes from crying, and refused to put the sheets back over her legs. She didn't want to believe it...but it was true. After Wong had left, she was all alone in the gloomy room. She assumed everyone was on missions. Komui was always busy, and she didn't really expect anyone to come visit her. She rolled onto her side, and little tears slid over her face.
" I'll...never dance again. My feet...will never touch the ground... "
' I knew it would happen...but not this soon. '
