OH. MY. CELESTIA. Can you believe this? There was a petition against Derpy! Apparently a lot of the MLP:FiM fans were offended by her voice and eyes. They thought that her whole character came off as "stupid" or "retarded" and that this was teaching children that this was okay to make fun of "those" people. People wrote to Hasbro and even Lauren Faust herself with complaints.

That makes me so mad. If you read the article below (there is some strong language at the bottom, be careful of that!), it says that "This isn't the first time My Little Pony has been racist..."

My brother is Special Needs, am I offended by Derpy? No. I'm part First Nation, am I offended by the Buffalo? No. (I'm a mutt, to be honest, so many things in me, around five or six. I'm mostly First Nation though; and I take most of my cultural interests from it.)

It's a cartoon, for crying outloud. Some people are just over sheltered.

She's just Derpy, seriously. That's what the fans wanted her to be. No need to go flaming on your Tumblr the creators of MLP just because of a fandom. That makes me so angry, especially when Derpy is my favorite. Plus, it's just a darn cartoon! The animators can do what they want, especially when they want to make fans happy!

I don't know how I'm gonna say it, so I'm just going to say it. Raeven, I'm happy (and proud, so to say) to hear that you weren't offended by either of them. And Rainbow, I totally agree. It was the fans that wanted her that way. And they didn't even make fun of her, either! Come on people. Don't go forcing apologies from the producers for something that the fans wanted. Love and tolerate, right?

And you guys are both so right, it's nothing to get huffy over. IT IS A CARTOON. Pretty sure it wasn't even intentional either, all this "racism" and whatnot. People really don't need to jump to such dramatic conclusions.

I work and am friends with a few interlectuially disabled people and I dont find it at all offensive, and aw heck, I showed them one of it and they were laughing to hard, but at what derpy did, not who she was. they weren't offended at al;.

How can they jump to the conclusion that she's mentally retarded? Mentally retarded people don't have crossed eyes, they just have trouble learning specific skills. Derpy is just... derpy. She's innocent, clumsy, and has a lazy eye{s}. Chill out, person that made that petition. I don't think it's offensive, and I don't understand why they think that it is.

Retarded people actually have eyes that are more spaced out, and a wider forehead in some cases. I know because I have some family members that are this way. As for the lazy eyes I actually have them and I'm not offended at all by this character. It isn't like my lazy eye actually does that. XD
