Welcome!

All you see these days are fursonas and whatnot. I thought to myself upon sighting these creations, what could my fursona be? It was only until recently that I realised, that a fursona was not right for me. And thus I moved onto animal totems.

For me, an animal totems is a term which represents an animal or being that has a close bond to you, the owner, but here is a more complex definition.

Animal totems play huge roles in our lives. They aid in self-discovery and capture our imagination, giving us incredible avenues of self-expression and awareness.

Additionally, they assist in understanding our past, and if we are attentive, our animal totems can reveal glimpses of our future.
Since time immemorial, animals have served as harbingers of personality traits we, as humans, all aspire to achieve. This makes animals some of the most powerful symbols in our spiritual toolbox.

Animals afford us visions of how our lives could be if we lived more simply and lived with purity of thought and emotion. Therefore, incorporating animal totems into our lives affirms our spiritual goals.

By focusing on the attributes of our totems, we internalize these traits and thus begin to externalize the very character we absorb from our totems.

This is a place to discuss your Totem, and to advise people on helping to realise theirs.

Finding your totem:
How To Find Your Animal Totem

An Animal Totem is an important symbolic object used by a person to get in touch with specific qualities found within an animal which the person needs, connects with, or feels a deep affinity toward.

You can have several animal guides through out your life. Sometimes an animal guide will come into your life for a short period of time, and then be replaced by another depending on the journey or direction you are headed toward. Your guide will instruct and protect you as you learn how to navigate through your spiritual and physical life. When you find an animal that speaks strongly to you or feel you must draw more deeply into your life, you might fill your environment with images of the animal to let the animal know it's welcome in your space. Animal guides can help you get back to your Earthly roots, and reconnect with nature by reminding you that we are all interconnected. To first do this you need to know what your Animal Totem is.
If You Don't Know

If you don't know what your Animal Totem is there are several questions you can ask yourself. All of the questions below are designed to get you thinking about a prominent animal in your life. There are no right or wrong answers. Only you can truly know which Animal Totem(s) are right for your journey.

1. Since we are drawn to that which resonates with us, what animal, bird, or insect are you drawn to?
2. When you go to the park, forest, or zoo what animal are you most interested in seeing?
3. What animal do you most frequently see when you're out in nature or in the city?
4. What animals are you currently interested in learning about?
5. Which animal do you find most frightening or intriguing?
6. Have you ever been bitten or attacked by an animal?
7. Is there a recurring animal in your dreams or do you have one you have never forgotten?

Still Uncertain?

If you are still uncertain which animal is your totem, here a few exercises you can do to come closer to the answer. You must not try to force the animal to come, it can pick up on that energy and be put off. Being patient and doing the following exercises will draw your animal totem to you.

1. Ask yourself what animal has played a meaningful part in your world? If you're unsure, make a list of animals that have drawn your interest or have left a deep impression on you from paintings, photographs, stories, movies, carvings, etc.
2. Which animal shows up in your life most frequently? Keep a journal of the animals present in your dreams or that you encounter through the day for the next month. How did the animal behave? Did you interact with the animal?
3. Find a place where you can be alone to meditate. Sit quietly and ask your animal to make it's nature known to you. Feel free to use tools such as incense, smudge, and candles to help you.
4. Don't give up, sometimes your animal totem is nearby watching to see if you're serious about connecting with it. Keep doing the above exercises until your animal totem makes itself known to you.

I am looking to creating an adoptable design specifically for this group, so I will update this once it is done.

Please remember that this group is not perfected, and a lot of tweaking is going to be needed. If you have/know more information on this matter, please do feel free to give your input.

About me
Kites

Hi there :)

I currently own three Totems, all of which I hold very dearly.

Image
First off, is the Red Kite. I live in an area where these rare birds are in abundances. I associate these beauties with home, and always will do. Where I go to school, we don't get the birds, and I always feel somewhat empty knowing that they wont be there when I look up in the sky. Its always difficult to explain, but the strange bond I feel between myself and these birds, has lead me to believe that they are my totem.

Image
Secondly, we have the Stag. He too represents my home, but he also made an impact on me as a child. Remember the film Bambi? My earliest memory was of me prancing between the bookshelves at nursery, with my chest puffed out, pretending to be the main stag. I can just never let go of that memory, and it feels suitable to make the Stag one of my Totems.

Image
Lastly, we have the Dragon. The mighty Dragon. I have yet to make his form solid, he can change shape and size in my mind, mostly due to my indecisiveness. I've always been fascinated with dragons, and have drawn them constantly from an early age. Only recently I have looked into anatomy to bring my drawings up to the next level. I found a little booklet that I made when I was 6 or so years old, last year. Full of tales of dragons, and how the young girl was chosen by the dragon kingdom due to her ability to change into a dragon. Plus I was constantly glued to the Spyro series as a child.

I will welcome more Totems when they show themselves to me.

None of these images are mine.

I hope you don't mind me asking here, but how do you know what your animal totem is? I'd love to join but I'm really unsure of what mine actually is.

I will be here
when you think you’re all alone
Seeping through the cracks
I’m the poison in your bones
My love is your disease
I won't let it set you free
Til I break you

You’ll never know what hit you
Won’t see me closing in
I’m gonna make you suffer
This hell you put me in
I’m underneath your skin
The devil within
You’ll never know what hit you

I tried to be the lover to your nightmare
Look what you made of me
Now I’m a heavy burden that you can’t bear
Look what you made of me
Look what you made of me
I’ll make you see

Username:
Tesshin-San

Nickname:
Pix or Tessh... Although if you know me well enough you could call me practically anything.

Number of Animal Totems:
Only one that I know of yet.

Which animals?:
I know it isn't really an animal of itself but the fawn

Reason for each:
I've had recurring dreams where I see through the eyes of a fawn. I have no idea what they mean, but every time something happens to it, I can just feel its emotion or pain.

Other:
Thank you ^^ I never would have realised that the little fawn could be my totem animal ♥

They can be really amazing, but they can also be the worst nightmares I've had. It depends. What makes them even more frightening is how vivid they are, almost like I'm actually the fawn. I just really want to know what they mean.
