To describe my Unicorns-- my depiction of the species from my story "Guilt", that is--
I try to follow more along the basis of traditional Unicorns with mine. Cloven hooves, lion's tail, and a touch of cervine to go with that equine. I also do NOT give them long manes. They have a coarse, short mane, instead.
They are also not white and mystical as the norm of Unicorns. They come in darker earth colours, usually in greys, blacks, and browns. Their horns are also stubbier and thicker, much like a rhino's.
And as for being pure, mystical, and beautiful-- nope, the Unicorns in my story are considered BAD LUCK.
Being in the presence of an alive Unicorn is said to cause bad luck. The cause of this old superstition is because the Unicorns emit a very ghoulish song. The noise that they make is sort of relative to a wolf's howl-- both in pitch and purpose-- but it also sounds like a loud wail. The sound is extremely eerie, and sends shivers down the spine.
Oddly enough, though, it is said to be LUCKY if one can possess a portion of the Unicorn's dead body. A year of luck is said to be given to anyone that comes to possess the tail hair of one.
This particular Unicorn here is Nimbus. He is missing a good chunk of his horn, as it was cut off by humans. It generally takes 20 years for a Unicorn's horn to grow completely back. They live up to 200 years.

There anatomy is, as said, supposed to be a blend between sort of cervine and equine-- with the lion's tail, extended ears, other mute points-- but I'm afraid I'm not the strongest with equine or cervine. xD
