Actually, I beg to differ. The longest word in the English language is actually a second name for one of the elements. It has over one thousand characters in it. xD

This looks awesome  . And, considering that I once sat down and read the intire "K" section of the dictionary, I think I'd enjoy being a pert of this. Thanks for inviting me :)

This is a wonderful idea, thanks so much for PMing me Spocky, I love learning new words, I'll sit and watch the television in our rooms at school all day untill the "word of the day" slide shows up, they take words from dictionary.com everyday (I'm not sure if they're the real words of the day or not, but its ussually something very interesting) and I've taken to writing them down. ^^ Here are some of them:

Chancel- the space about the altar of a church, usually enclosed, for the clergy and other officials
Cicatrix- new tissue that forms over a wound and later contracts into a scar; a scar left by a fallen leaf, seed, etc
Discombobulate- to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate
Kanone- a person who is an expert skier
Lentigo- a freckle or other pigmented spot
Magnanimous- free from petty resentfulness or vindictiveness
Pique- to affect with sharp irritation and resentment, especially by some wound to pride

And I just checked, today's word of the day is "cosher" which means "to treat with special fondness"

Oh goodness. XD I was going to add it... but I don't think I could fit a 189,819 letter word into our dictionary without considerable confusion.

I have a long one to add...
Honorificabilitudinitatibus. Latin for "the state of being able to achieve honours".
