I'm late.

must-eat-u; You probably won't remember this because I fail and procrastinate on my replies, but thanks for the link. Now I just have to figure out a way to get pen pressure to work in SAI. ((I still haven't figured it out and windows is making my computer lag more than usual fffff.))

Alexwhite; You and me both. I can't ink my drawings properly to save my life.
I'll be stalking that merman thread of yours now anyway.

---

Guys, guys, I drew a woof! Er, not that that's anything special, but point is that I can't draw wolves/canines/felines or any kind of four legged creature. At all!

Image

I'm obviously not paying attention to what I draw.
And Prep wanted to be like the cool kids and draw everything on one layer. Obviously it didn't work out very well.

Oh, and the character belongs to Neara.

By the way, guys, I want critique. Seriously, crit me, I don't bite nor whine if you're harsh. I haven't gotten anything since I joined this group. ((Well, nothing memorable.))

OMG Prep you canis lupas anatomy is awesone. though i suggest (especially for dax) the muzzle is quite slender and much more feminine than it should be so to make it a bit bulkier. The paws are a bit small too. Wolves usually have very large paws.

-hope i helped :D

Thank you. ;A;

These days, when I draw four legged creatures ((or anthros, even)) I usually draw the muzzle like that for every animal. I'm not kidding.
So thanks, I'll keep that in mind. For the paws, too. I'm used to drawing small limbs on animals, for some reason, but I'll try harder next time. XD

I'm glad that the character is recognizable, though. I was afraid that I messed up somewhere.

Your welcome. I guess all my skills come from constantly calling myself a crappy artist. And Dax is as handsome as he can ever be. WOLFY would love any art from you.(Me too!!!)

I had pretty cheap price as well. I think it was...an average of 7000 FooGems or 7 FooDollars. Back then my art was crappy, but Foo never had high expectations, lolol. When I was banned, everybody hunted for my contact info and people are still ringing me up.

Most of my friends get my art for free, for really cheap, or for art trades. c:

Aaaaagh, just something about canines anatomy throws me off all the time. I'm pretty good at fur and all that stuff, but when I have to come up with an anatomically correct pose for a dog, my brain fries.

i charged 70fd to begin with, for traditional pieces (like the dog in my post - for Sparkoo, not sure if you know the member), and then when i started to offer tablet portraits, i charged 100fd for traditional and 70fd for tablet, since more went into traditional. even at those prices i was so overbooked for work, that i took down traditional portraits and went to a "tablet only" shop, charging 100fd. i just couldnt handle all the requests and the annoying "you charge too much! you should be charging 2fd or something" which i found insulting. now i have completely closed shop.

im the same way with friends and whatnot. i did a picture (traditional) of my friends son (http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 3779_n.jpg) for free, and will be doing a picture of another friends newborn when i get the time for it, i will probably do this one on my tablet, but im not sure... im still working on my people skills, but im getting pretty good now =) ^^ thats one of my better ones, there are a whole series of omg-thats-scary tries =P

People just don't seem to get how much effort and time is put into a commission-- and to do that for 2 FD is practically free. I thought I vaguely recognized your username, but now I'm sure of it. You're a wonderful artist. ^.^

Image

That's the quality of my typical commission, but that drawing in particular was my half of an art trade with a good friend of mine. c: [JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF ME FAILING AT CANINES, ASDFASDGRW]

Now whenever I open a shop, I open a 'preliminary thread' to see what people are willing to pay. There's no business if you can't negotiate between time, quality, and customer will.

You improve when you least expect it? XD But don't call your art crappy, think positive! -hypocrite-

I think I was commissioned by WOLFY once. But they never paid me so I never got around to drawing their character. Of course, it could have been another WOLFY, but I can't be quite sure.

@Preposterous: I'm unbelievably bad at giving crit, but I know your frustration well. So I'll try. :3

The chest looks a bit wide-ish, to me. That's the most obvious thing; I know that many dogs in real life have broad chests, but it looks a little out of place on this guy. Maybe because it's a bit like looking at a mostly-front-view of his chest and arms, when his far shoulder and leg would be a little tilted back because of his posture. Or because he's got a very slender, elegant face on a bulky body, and his legs look a bit on the shorter side {maybe that's just perspective, though...? Or I'm just not used to seeing it}. I would suggest moving the... Left-from-our-pespective leg a little closer in to the chest, and either crossing the paws or tilting the right-from-our-perspective leg a little further away, maybe taking away some of the shoulder? But that might not be needed.

Aside from that, that pose has always given me some trouble, so I don't think I could comment on anything else... His tail's a little odd in length for a normal wolf/dog, but that's pretty normal to do now, so it's not that bad. Overall, I think it's lovely. :D His mask is beautiful.

Also~ Thanks for all the tips/sympathy on my art-block, guys. <3 I'm getting a little bit better... Of course, everything I draw still looks bad, but I've been out of practice for so long that it was inevitable.
Does anyone have any little useful tidbits on drawing human bodies? :3 Just random little tips, things to keep in mind, tricks for remembering proportions... Anything you might think that could be useful? On the whole, they're not my strong suit, and I'm trying to improve.

My friend Harpalyce has some great human tutorials floating around. A few are on her deviantART account.

You may find some others on her art thread here on CS, but I'm not sure about that.
