A couple of things to know about mage attacks.
First, your dragons should have high Intellect for mage attacks. The only elemental attack that can be used by a melee dragon and still do a lot of damage is slashes. Bolts and the special attack are for mages.

Now, while it will do some base damage, it varies depending your enemies element. And the special ability tagged onto it, only works 1/3 shots. So you will do damage, but not always get the special effect added on.

edit;; Enfeeble increases magical damage against your opponent. So you would need to attack them again afterwards for the effect to have done anything useful.

i dont have anymore room in my lair for more childern but i keep looking through the auction house and then i find a dragon with lore that i just cant pass up ;-; i mean look at this child

If you hover over them, the effect of the special attacks are usually in ( )
My personal favorite is Wind's special attack, which makes whoever is affected attack friend or foe, no telling who they will attack.
