Sadly I don't know any puns in English but I know one in French that makes me laught a lot ! If someone can understand French :

this means "what do you call a cat fallen in a pot of paint on Christmas Eve? a painted christmas cat"

I think you translated correctly but my French is rosty too lol
the pun probably is that Un chat peint de Noel sounds like un chapin de Noel as in a Christmas bunny? or chapin the Swiss-French word for Christmastree?
