I usually wait until December. It happens every year that there will be a few treats that are not accepted.

I mentioned earlier that I'd be making new coding for the front page, I've finished the first 3 posts, which is the main part I wanted to get done. I'd love to hear any feedback you have, you're free to PM me with it if you prefer.
I'm mainly trying to create more clarity with the front page, I'm not quite as worried about how it looks, but I do want the information to be eye-catching. The main things I'd like to hear from you would be;
  • Is it easily understandable, does it make sense?
  • Is the format easy to follow?
  • Does it look readable for younger players, not using too advanced vocabulary?
  • Particularly with the rules post; Are the guidelines clear? Are there questions you have that are not answered?
Those are just the main things I want to make sure are good, you are free to provide more or less than what I listed here. Also please be aware that I am by no means done yet. I plan on making further changes to the coding and adding images, and I'm sure there are spelling mistakes I need to fix. I also did not code past the third post so the rest is plain text. You can go over that too, but you don't have to, some of it is more or less copy/paste from the main thread. It'll follow the same coding format I used on the first three posts.

This mockup also does not include anything that I plan on /maybe/ changing for next year. I have a few things in mind I would like to do in response to things we have had difficulty with this year, but I did not include them on this since they aren't set in stone.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate any time you take to look at it and let me know what you think <3

I've been reading through the comments but I wanted to respond to this specifically. The main reason I don't bother doing this is cause there isn't any actual way of enforcing this. We have no way of knowing if someone is ever turning their lights on, since they might just be turning them on without us seeing. The only thing I can think of that comes close is getting a group of excessively active people who report to me on anyone who seem not to be turning on their lights, but have been sending out PMs (since some people may just not be playing at all), but this definitely wouldn't be perfect and people could still slip by, and its difficult for me to collect a group like this, people who tend to send out more PMs than they receive (typically meaning they have a lot of time to kill) tend not to advertise it in their signatures.

I also may be in the minority here, and by no means expect anyone to agree with me, but my own approach to LOLO is it being an opportunity for me to give out gifts to people because I enjoy their story/costume. For me, it really has nothing to do with whether I receive anything, I'm not as concerned about other people also sending gifts. Yes, part of the idea is the take AND give. But I also like to point out that this is the reason we require the costume/story. It requires effort on the side of the person you are giving stuff to. Technically, that should be why you are gifting them, not because they are also gifting people.

Anyway, I have given this a great deal of thought, I do every year. If I could enforce it, I would. But its not something I can really see any way I could truly enforce it. I'm also not entirely sure its quite as big of a problem as it might seem to be. A lot of people who seem to always have their lights off probably aren't actively playing, or even actively on CS. October also tends to be the month that people have mid-terms or papers due (which may be more for college than high school), so some people might just get too busy, or only play occasionally.

While that's true, I thought I'd mention it, in case there was some way to possible. I personally don't mind too much, it was just a thought of mine, and I did realize at the very beginning that it'd be impossible to ensure that everyone do such, though I thought may have been worth mentioning, even if may not be a rule. Thank you for responding though, now I don't have to dwell over it. ^^

I noticed that it really bugs me when LOLO stories mention the trick-or-treater not getting enough treats. For example, when they have their pet frustrated that they haven't gotten any candy yet, or that all the houses have their lights off. I even got one where the trick-or-treater saw people inside their houses with the lights off, pretending they weren't home so that they wouldn't have to give treats. This made me feel like they were begging for treats, and so I gave the person a trick. In the end, they sent me a really sweet message about how much they enjoyed my trick (I'd made a whole story with it and they told me they liked this even better than a treat), which was the sweetest thing that happened to me in LOLO this year.

But back to the topic... I think it would be nice if this was listed somewhere, not as a rule, but as something that's not recommended to do in your story. Not just for the pleasure of the people receiving the story, but also for the pleasure of the person trick-or-treating, because they might not even know that it looks like they're whining (maybe they just didn't know anything else to write, or they thought it would make a good story, or they remembered people doing this in real life) and people might give them less treats this way without them knowing what they did wrong.

I can add it to the 'story help' section, we've got a list suggestions in there ^^ But I do normally try not to impose any more rules on stories than I have to, I want to let people write whatever they want. That said, I do like to point out anything thats likely to get them tricked, so that would apply.

That's what I meant: I didn't want it to be a rule, just a suggestion.

Hey everyone! The LOLO thread for 2017 is now up (a bit late, I was busy driving home after having to leave due to the hurricane >u< ). Early applications are now open, there were a couple rule changes so if you played last year be sure to go over them again. We are also looking for moderators for both the fanclub and the main thread (its fine to apply for both) if anyone is interested in that. We also plan on opening up a Discord server for players to chat on, but its currently still in the process of being put together.

I'm excited for a new year of LOLO and hope to see you all there! ^^

hi everyone! nice to see that this thread was reused :>

in any case, i'm already working on my story and dress up, but since i only have the dress up done, i'd like some feedback on it!
    Image
the pet is supposed to be a figure skater but. i might have to think up of some sort of basket / bag alternative since the trick or treating bag i have right now does take up a lot of the costume.
