I thought of this earlier today.
Weeping Angels. We all have some sort of terrified love burning for them. They are easily the most terrifying villain in the show for me, because of just how simple they are. A statue that comes to life when you look away. I've had nightmares about them, like having to stand in a room with one for five minutes and I can't blink when I go past statues anymore. Yet I still love them. <3 But if you really think about it, they're possibly the most depressing species in the show. Besides the Doctor himself, and while my friends would deny it they aren't very far in the series and they have no idea how much Matt and David will make them cry. ^.^
Back to Angels, they are quite depressing. I mean, they used to be called 'the lonely assassins'. That speaks volumes. They are incapable of doing pretty much anything besides killing and feeding. They can't communicate with their own kind or others because the minute something looks at them they turn to stone. If two Angels look at each other, they freeze up forever. That's really sad. An Angel can't love, feel, communicate or anything some people take for granted. All the little things we have, they don't because of what's keeping them alive in the first place.
Imagine if a Weeping Angel could feel, and it fell in love. Well if it was another Angel they'd both end up freezing into rock for good. But imagine if it was a human. The Angel would be following that human around, constantly losing them because people keep looking at it and it could never get too close because if it touched the human, it'd kill the human. And it could never tell that human how it felt, because it couldn't even let the human see it. And when that human dies, it would stand above his grave and weep. Weeping Angels. The Lonely Assassins.
As if crying over a Cyberman head wasn't enough, now there's Angels. Damnit Moffat.
But what would happen if you touched an Angel instead of it touching you? From what we've seen, they need to use their hands to send you back in time. So if you just walked up to an Angel and hugged it, what would happen? If you closed your eyes, you wouldn't be able to see it. But you would be touching it. And while touching isn't seeing, you're kind of seeing with another sense. I mean, you'd know if it moved. You're not supposed to know when they move, so maybe it isn't just sight that keeps them in place?
Maybe the Angels just want to be loved. Maybe they're just lonely and sad. Maybe they're trying to get closer to some people so that they can feel love, but they can't because whatever they touch gets sent back in time. And some of them are just so desperate for food that they purposefully kill, because without that residual energy they die. Maybe somebody just needs to walk up to a Weeping Angel, tell them that they know that they're hurting, and give them a big old hug.
Oh God I'm crying over Weeping Angels now. ;~;
