watamote is something that a lot of hikikomori (shut-ins) relate to, so if you're like that then hell yeah, go for it. i can relate to watamote to a certain degree, but i'm not a hardcore shut-in like the main character xD

you should definitely read noragami and assassination classroom. both have excellent characters and storytelling, with amazing anime adaptations too. noragami is one of my favourite series of all time ^^

Gakkou Gurashi...that first episode. Just wow, was not expecting that.

Anywho, I have a question for everybody:

What is an anime you regret watching?

For me, I regret watching Yosuga no Sora. I don't even know what to say about it. Holy cow.

if i'm gonna be honest, the first thing that came to my mind was attack on titan.
i don't hate it per say, i just only really enjoyed it because of the hype that came
along with it at first, which soon became it's downfall. i can't even try to watch it
now and i hate myself for buying the mangas, which i've only read once and just
forced myself to read because they had been lying on my shelf just collecting dust.

I did the same thing. I just went along with the fans and I only find the series meh. I didn't go so far as to buy the manga.

I still haven't bought any manga yet, but I'm trying to decide on that. I would like to read raw manga, however I only speak a little Japanese and can barely read it. I don't want any of the meanings to be "lost in translation."

my kanji reading skills are very bad, like extremely bad, so i tend to only buy licensed things.
i also stopped trying to buy manga series i liked, and only buy things i saw that had potential
and i hadn't read yet. it saved my wallet a bit and a lot of the things i own that i barely read
anymore i could sell. i always recommend looking into series and maybe reading a bit of the
series before buying it. and not buying the entire series in one go, because i've done that twice
now, and have yet to read all of it despite it sitting there for months or years now.

long story short, there is a reason i am constantly broke and it is due to poor choices i make
while half asleep and browsing amazon casually.

Me too hehe. I know very basic Kanji but my speaking and hiragana have gotten a lot better. I have thought about buying series that are very simple for Japanese learners (like Youtsubato). Thank you for the advice too <3. I will definitely keep that in mind.

I don't usually regret watching any anime, if I don't like it I usually drop it after a couple of episodes. If I had to choose one, it would be Madoka Magica, the feels hit me so hard I will never recover.

Hey guys, I'm sorry to just pop up out of nowhere and change the topic, but I'd like some suggestions on anime with good art / animation, drama and / or tragedy, psychological, or basically just something really sad. It doesn't need to have all of these and I'd prefer movies, but series are also welcome. Also, if possible, please let me know why you enjoyed the ones you're suggesting, in case you've already watched them of course ^-^

Unfortunately, I haven't watched a lot of anime movies and the ones I have, are already suggested. I can recommend series, however.

    Wolf's Rain
    R17+ | Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Mystery, Sci-Fi, Post-apocalyptic, Tragedy| 30 episodes (1 season 26 + 4 OVA) | Studio: Bones

    The first anime I've ever watched (consciously) still makes me cry every time I think about it ;n;
It is kinda old but the animation is pretty good c:

    Valvrave the Liberator
    R17+ | Action, Mecha, Space, Sci-Fi, Drama | 2 seasons (12 episodes each) | Studio: Sunrise

    VVV was pretty great even though it made me cry a lot, especially the 2nd season ;n;

Many people have mixed feelings about this anime or disliked it but there are also many who loved it. That is mainly due to it's themes that don't make that much sense together but Sunrise quite successfully combined.

Valvrave the Liberator is by no means the best written show but it's still fairly well done. If you don't like it after 1-3 episodes then this anime isn't your cup of tea.

The animation and art are amazing~!

    Buddy Complex

    PG-13 | Action, Mecha, Sci-Fi, Military | 1 season (13 episodes), Special two part Final| Studio: Sunrise

An amazing anime that in my opinion, is worth watching. Made me really emotional for some reason even though it wasn't that sad. Most likely of how good the animation and music was~!

Also made by Sunrise (meaning animation and style are pretty good) but unlike Valvrave, it does not push any boundaries.

    Death Parade
    R17+ | Drama, Game, Mystery, Psychological, Thriller| 1 season (12 ep) | Studio: Madhouse

Not your "ordinary" anime. Death Parade has a pretty interesting and unusual concept. I really enjoyed watching it and the ending gave me so many feels~!

    Mirai Nikki
    R17+ | Action, Mystery, Psychological, Shounen, Supernatural, Thriller| 1 season (26 ep), 1 special Alt-version | Studio: Asread

Not really a sad anime although it had its moments but I really liked the dark atmosphere of it~
    Animation and style are great.

    Akame ga Kill!
R17+ | Action, Adventure, Dark Fantasy | 1 season (24 ep) | Studio: White Fox

A show full of feels, not the best but still it made me so saaaad orz

    Parasyte
    R17+ | Action, Drama, Horror, Psychological, Sci-Fi, Seinen| 1 season (24 ep) | Studio: Madhouse

Great animation, style and story. I didn't find it all that sad except for the ending but still it is a nice and interesting watch.

    If you haven't watched yet:

Shingeki no Kyojin/ Attack on Titan
    Fullmetal Alchemist

I cried in every episode //dead

Some ongoing with great art and really sad:

    Re:Zero
    R17+ | Drama, Fantasy, Thriller| 1 season (25 ep), currently on ep. 16 | Studio: White Fox

Since it is still ongoing I cannot say much but it's really heartbreaking to see the MC going through all of this~

    Orange
PG-13 | Drama, Romance, School, Sci-Fi, Shoujo| 1 season (13 ep), currently on ep. 3 | Studio: Telecom Animation Film

Like Re:Zero I can't say much, especially since this one is only on episode 3 but I can see a lot of feels coming later in the season. It's already kind of sad~

    Sooo, there's more but I think these are more than enough ^^;

Well, Mikasa's personality is different from Levi's. She is not the same character as Levi. I don't like her because, to me, she is the cliché heroine with a dark past who is infatuated with the main character. They had to make her obsessed/super attached to Eren. Nothing irritates me more than a heroine who is so obsessed with a guy that it clouds her judgment and makes her act irresponsible and stupid. Take Riza Hawkeye for example. She was a strong female character. She cared deeply for Roy sure, but that never confused her as to what decisions should be made or what the correct course of action should be. She didn't let her feelings control her.

Levi is the exact opposite in this regard. He cared deeply for his teammates, but he didn't let his feelings get in the way of what needed to be done. Spoilers: When Petra died did he give up on living? No. He used her corpse to distract a titan that was chasing them, and gave her patch to that dumb soldier that lead the titans to them, causing him to have to dump her body.

Of course this is my own personal opinion, lol! I don't mind that other people like or enjoy her character. I just don't like her. Very rarely is there a series where I don't dislike at least one of the characters, and Mikasa really hit that mark for me. Eren is a big part of what makes her her, and that is one of my pet peeves. When a female character doesn't have any personality unless a guy is involved.

Their personalities may be different but their "surface" traits are the same.

Now, I assume you watched the anime series but I don't know about the manga so I'll make spoilers transparent. I never really talked about Mikasa that much or /analyzed/ her character so thanks for the opportunity~c:

Soo, it is true that her character was determined by Eren but that doesn't mean she's obsessed with him. Yes, she's really attached to him but not without reason. At a very young age, Mikasa had to deal with the death of both of her parents. She was lost, she felt "cold" (in a more figurative sense) she didn't have anywhere to run or go b/c if she didn't have her parents she didn't have anyone; she'd be all alone.

Then, Eren comes in and offers her a home and "warmth". He even calls her family. That for a traumatized child as Mikasa means a lot especially since for Mikasa, family was really important (even before Eren). Therefore, Eren becomes the /center/ of Mikasa's newfound family. She doesn't think of him as her only family but he is the one who offered her "warmth".

And then, history repeats itself. Mikasa, once again, loses her family. That makes her stick closer to Eren and becomes even more "attached". Ofc, Armin is still there but as I mentioned above Eren is the /center/. So, when they have to be separated in the battle of Trost she's hesitant but obeys the orders only later to find out that Eren is dead. She's just so overwhelmed with grief that she recklessly shouts to the remaining soldiers and almost leading them to their deaths. She didn't take responsibility for her actions but Mikasa has lost or her will to live. In the end, however, she doesn't give up and chooses to live on--she accepted Eren's death. Imo, The battle of Trost arc played a really important role in her character development, in fact it is where it started.
There's a great contrast to then and now.

Mikasa's character and personality are influenced by Eren but she is her own person and Eren doesn't make her who she is. Even if he wasn't there she'd still had a pretty solid personality. In the anime, she didn't have great character development but in the manga, you can see her growth. She starts to trust others too and she is no longer as attached to Eren as she used to be, but Eren still remains an important person to her and so does Armin.

Also something I'd like to mention is that no matter how "attached" she is to Eren (in the anime/ early in the series at least) she never hesitates to call him out for his behavior. Like, for example, when Eren is belittling Armin, she punches him. If she were "obsessed" with him and didn't care about anything or anyone else, she'd probably wouldn't be doing anything at that moment.

Riza is a really strong, female character and her judgment wasn't clouded b/c of Roy but the main difference between the two, is age. Mikasa is still a child with a really traumatic past. She didn't just loose her family once but twice so she'd do anything to keep her last family--Eren--alive.
