I'd like to try that challenge, it sounds interesting.

Well, this is the first chapter to my story.
FENNIK-
Daylight was just beginning to break over the desert.
Amidst the sand and rocks and flowering desert plants was a hole in the ground. Little yelps and whines were emerging from it.
The cactus wren foraging near the hole stopped its work and paused to listen. It ruffled its feathers, reluctant to give up such a good source of food that it had found here, but another yelp from the hole quickly changed its mind. The cactus wren lifted into the sky, landing again a good several feet away, and began to search for a meal once again.
Inside the den, the sounds were much louder, issuing from the mouths of several rowdy fox pups.
“But Mama, I don’t want to go sleep!”
Kiara smiled at her first-born pup, a stubborn dog-fox named Brom. He stood in front of her, his large ears quivering in indignation, his buff-gray pelt still kit-soft.
“Mama, will you tell us a story?” A sweet little voice inquired from her left. Glancing that way, she saw Lotus, sitting next to Twitchtip, the smallest of the litter.
Wait…where is Fennik? Brom also looked around, his gaze confused.
“Where’d Fenn go? “ He squeaked.
“Mama…I think I’m stuck.” A muffled voice echoed around the den. They all glanced around, searching for the source of it.
Twitchtip noticed a rust-colored tail sticking out of the wall. He nudged Lotus and pointed.
“Mama! Twitchy found him! He’s stuck in the wall!” Lotus shrieked.
Kiara jumped to her feet and paced over to the far side of the den. She crouched down by the tail, peering into the small crack between two rocks that her son had wedged himself into.
“Fennik? What have I told you about exploring without my permission?”
“I’m sorry, Mama,” came the remorseful little voice. “I couldn’t help myself.”
Kiara felt her heart warm. She never could stay angry with him for long. A problem suddenly occurred to her.
How am I going to rescue him? The entire side of the den is rock…I can’t dig through rock! I guess I’ll have to pull him out. She gently took his tail in her mouth and tugged.
“Ouch!”
“Oh, Fennik. You’re really stuck in there.” She pulled again, to no avail. Brom suddenly rushed forward.
“We can help!” Brom seized the tip of his brother’s tail and motioned to Lotus, who squeezed past him and clamped her tiny teeth around the remaining part of Fennik’s tail. Twitchtip watched anxiously as his family struggled to free his brother.
There was the sudden sound of claws scrabbling on dirt and several small rocks bounced down the tunnel as their father emerged into the den, dropping a plump rabbit at his feet.
“I’m ba-what in the name of Ḁnᶏsol₥?” Kerrick sputtered in shock.
There was a tiny pop and Fennik was free, crashing into his littermates and they all collapsed in a heap on top of Kiara. She smiled up at her mate.
“Just another day in the den.”
“Quite a day, I’d say. I brought dinner. Sorry I’m late, but it took a really long time to track down.” Kiara stood up, dislodging her children. The slid to ground and curled together in a tired pile, exhausted from their little adventure. Soon, the only sound in the den was the gentle sound of sleeping pups.
“Aren’t they precious?” she whispered softly. Kerrick nuzzled her gently.
“Yes, they are. Just like you.”
The two kit foxes sat and watched their pups in silence, the rabbit forgotten.
“I think I’ll take them out of the den tomorrow,” Kiara said suddenly. Kerrick turned to his mate in surprise.
“So soon?”
“Kerrick, they’re nearly five weeks old. It’s about time.”
“I know, but…”
“They’ll be fine, silly. We’ll be watching them.”
Kerrick frowned. “I scented coyote today, while I was hunting the rabbit.” Kiara’s eyes widened. “It was pretty far from here,” he added hastily. “I don’t think it will be a problem, but maybe they should stay in the den, just to be on the safe side.”
She sat in silence for a long minute. “I’m still taking them out. We’ll just have to watch them more carefully, that’s all.” Kerrick knew there was no use arguing with his mate once her mind was made up. “Alright,” he said finally, watching his slumbering pups. “But promise me you won’t let them go farther than the cactus. “I promise. Now, stop worrying and eat this rabbit with me.” Kiara crouched down and tore off a chunk of meat from the furry meal lying on the floor of the den. Kerrick hesitated, then he too began to eat.
Unknown to his parents, Fennik hadn’t been asleep. He had lain there, wide awake, throughout their entire conversation.
I wonder what a coyote is. The little pup had an insatiable curiosity, and was constantly asking questions and exploring places. He tried to picture what a coyote looked like. An image popped into his mind, a hungry monster with long, sharp teeth and red eyes. Fennik let out a sudden whimper and smuggled closer to his littermates. He began to feel sleepy and closed his eyes, quickly drifting off into darkness. He had one last thought before he blacked out.
A coyote must be something terrible.
