I don't think it is? I think its the same thing as mottling or 'freckling' in horse terms? XD I could be wrong though, I'm a bit new to the patterns other than base coats or less common markings. I can't guarantee what I am saying is fact, but as far as I know I don't believe it is.

The Belton gene refers to a genetic marker found in dogs. Not horses.

Likewise ticking can refer to roan or rabicano. So you need to find out the correct name for what you are looking for.

I looked it up a bit and didn't find any other name for it or much on it at all, but it appears to be mostly a paint horse thing? Pinto patterns, with some spotting on the face and around the hooves, if white markings are present there. So I'm going to guess it isn't an appaloosa thing, but a paint thing, and doesn't appear to be any type of separate gene at all, like with Belton for dogs. I may be wrong though, I've never heard it referred to like that before. But I haven't seen it out side of pinto-patterned horses either and don't know a proper name for it. Freckling I don't think is it either, as champagne colored horses experience actual freckling in the skin, and a similar thing would be the molting pattern/coloring in appaloosas around certain places (eyes and nose for example).

To keep this WME-ish related, I'm still sort of looking for a name for my new girl as I don't know if calling her "Sneaky pony" will stick much longer. I'm open to suggestions, would be cute if it did still somehow tie into the original name, or any one or two parts of the original name ;w;

Ohh yeah that. There is no other name of it, it simply kept the name Belton and is used on both horses and dogs.
So far from what I've gathered, it's a very unknown gene and possibly just a mutation causing the base coat to be broken up and spotty instead of a patch? Either that or the skin of the horse is spotted, causing the hair to become spotted as well. It's really difficult to say, as not much is known about it so there's not much to know xD I've always found it intriguing.

Example below. There's really no good pictures because this is really rare apparently :o

Fact is very little is known about it and it's obviously pretty rare.

Jagger is open for looking for a lady friend! Not mates right away, I just want to see where they go. He's extremely outgoing and maybe a teeny bit full of himself ;) he loves showing off and flirting. Currently he is domestic and is my boy Blitz's best bud, but he wouldn't mind a wild girl either!

Thank all of you guys so much! I'd love to see a WME with the Belton gene. q w q

So, that leads me to a question..!
    Code: Select all
Say you had a choice to pick a mutation(s) to insert into WMEs, what would you choose?

This could be Bengal cat shaped quip, a mutation for shorter manes that don't go all the way down, anything you like. Get creative!

Ember, how do you feel about the name Appalachia or Appalachian? Maybe Appa, Oppa, or Chia as a nickname.
Horsy, I'm sorry, I apologize. I thought that was the name. I'll keep looking to see if it's just another name for ticking. I found the gene on accident when I stumbled onto the article that Dark posted, actually. cx

Well anyone who wants a Belton equid is out of luck. It's NEVER going to happen.

So anyone wanting to add spots to anything except a tobiano is out of luck. Even then overly spotty tobianos aren't allowed.

Equids do not have spots except on appaloosa.

Thanks everyone for all the name help! I'll stick with Wyvern!! :D

@ S h e b s t e r: Batman! I love that name!! :D And possibly! ^^ I don't want to find a mate for her yet but perhaps in the future. They would make a handsome pair.

I would also love to introduce my new filly! <3 I really need name suggestions! If anyone comes up with some ideas please post it on her page!
