I totally agree Uchuujin, even if putting a lot into your form is hard. Doing it proves how much you want the character. I've had times when I work for hours on a form and loose to someone who doesn't even have a quarter of What I did.
When that happens I get so enraged and depressed. I believe that not putting effort into your forms because you don't have enough time is unfair for the people who also don't have the time yet do it anyway. I spend hours and hours on my form. Working on it and neglecting other duties that I have.
Just gonna add my 2 cents to this because I have tried for any adopt that I like and feel a connection to, big or small.
What master nightmare said is true, I have actually pulled my shoulder out trying to work on a form, lost sleep because I had been so busy before hand I couldn't get the time to do it in a leisurely manner and what does my effort end up with?
I lost to a form that didnt appear to have anywhere near as much effort as i had placed and i felt cheated, bitter and now i have a bad association with certain artists because the reasons behind some of my loses did not make sense to me.
I will take a lose if i understand it because damn some people really go all out and i really take my hat off to them but when i lose to a form that went half the stuff i did, then as i said i become bitter.
For tips, I would honestly say do everything they say on the form, add a little more, show that you really want it and what i also find sometimes that does help is that dont put your form up days before. Make it but keep it off site until a day or two before the deadline but keep an eye on that deadline. I've had people skip their deadline and move it up.
I know it sounds cheap but its a competition so watching your competition is part of the 'game', see how you can make your form better than theirs, does it need a little bit more art? Can i add a little more information in this topic etc. If its allowed having too much is never too bad because at the end of the day the effort is shown. It might cause heartache if you lose but when you win, everyone in that competition will know 'knew they were gonna win'
Do keep in mind though, that sometimes out of no logic someone will win that showed very little effort and ive seen this alot and not just with ones ive tried for but ones ive seen in passing and i truly dont understand it. I actually don;t try for adopts much anymore because after pulling my shoulder on the one ive decided that I can't always do that.
