Then Uninstall anything that seems unwanted. There's lists of common PUPs online, or if you notice something new you never downloaded, remove it.
You have to be careful with these programs, and people hate gimp because it's a "virus" when in reality they just want money XD
I know about these. I always make sure to cancel them, because my first computer ended up with tons of PUPs.
The computer I have now is very "new"((it's refurbished)) but I haven't had it for long.
My family also has Norton Internet Security, which is probably one of the best antivirus programs that exists((in my opinion.)) I scan my computer once every month or so.
