The 4th wall... well...
It means the character acts like they know they are in a show or something, example:

Person 1: Lets sleep.
Person 2: Noooo that would be boring for the people watching!
Person 1: Oh yeah, were in a cartoon people are watching.

(NOTE: That wasn't in a show, I made it up XD Or maybe some show did that but I dunno O.O)
