A lot of people do like those chibi-ish designs though. So much that I've been thinking of making my relatively realistic adopts into something more cutesy so people will actually want them. It's hard as a designer when you spend a good amount of time on a design and 3 people spend the absolute minimum effort on it. ;-; Because almost no one wants a realistic wildcat/smoke aura creature unless it's cute, even if it's basically free.

Yeah, that's what I find most annoying is that most people (not all) seem to have no appreciation for a well done realistic species, all because they're not cute and fluffy and chibi-like. That's why most of my own attempts at a closed species adoption center never worked, because I refused to jump on the bandwagon and make cutsie things like everyone else. I've moved to selling one-off adopts over on Deviantart now as I feel like there are more people inclined to appreciate that sort of thing.

When you can't sell them or trade them.

In terms of seeing... Errr... Hybrids with different species added in "just because" with no reasoning.
The goal of a species is to survive, and some things can be put down to adaptation, others not so much.
Like random feathers so something can be part bird X3

Absolutely agree with these things. Every feature in a species should be to further their survival, not just slapped on because people think it looks cool. Even though my Avyloci (most of the characters in my sig) have wings and feathers everywhere, they're all for the purpose of their own survival. Large eyes help them to see their main predator in a dense forest, their colour and feathers on their head are for expression, status and attracting a mate. Every feature has a purpose.

What features do you guys like in an adoptable species?
Uniqueness, I'm not a fan of characters that look just like every other character or adoptable species out there.
Anatomical correctness.
Good species info. This one is quite important, I think. I'm more inclined to adopt one of a species if the info about them is accurate and interesting. Bonus points if it actually makes sense. For this, it's often good to look up the species profile of an actual animal and use that as a template for what you need to cover. Animal Diversity Webs is a really great place to find these.

What features turn you away?
Features that you've seen a thousand times before (slapping fluff everywhere, wings for no reason, magic for no reason.) things like that.
Chibi species. I like to get art of characters as chibis, but am not a fan of species that are originally chibi looking. I think a good work around is having a realistic anatomy reference or something then adopt them out in a chibi lineart.
