It is ok as an artist to get a little upset with a person for selling a character that you are creating art of for them and then you get asked for a refund on the art?
Personally, I wouldn't give them the refund. I find this situation EXTREMELY rude. Pretty recently I had an issue where a character was sold to me "illegally" so to speak and I had to quicky inform an artist I had commissioned. In that case I didn't ask for a refund, I asked if I could change the character if it wasn't too late. I felt bad enough doing that though. Thankfully the artist hadn't started and was glad to accommodate me. I still feel very guilty about that. I think that if you want, you could offer to do a different character for them. I think that's reasonable as long as you didn't already start. But I really don't think you are obligated to refund them because they are putting themselves in that situation.
Do you think its ok to sell any of the characters that you put on your SS form? Why or why not? Would you as an artist/someone ordering art be upset if your partner sold a character or changed it?
Again, EXTREMELY RUDE. I would simply not do any art of those characters, and focus on the characters not for sale. If those are the only characters they have listed, then you really just have to suck it up unfortunately. It sounds to me like this person is expecting you to boost the worth/quality of their characters for them so that they can sell for better prices. I mean really as long as they are doing their part in the event, and making a lot of art for their SS giftee, then it's not that bad, but since you have no idea what they're contributing then it's a tough situation. Maybe you can check their posts and lurk around to see if it seems like they're putting effort into the event, and if you are, then you can feel less bad about it. But honestly I'd just skip over those characaters because it would feel like a waste of my time to me. I don't think this situation would be bad if it was a commission, but as a gift, it is selfish and rude. It's like if you asked for an expensive gift for Christmas with the sole intention of returning them to get the money - it's very disrespectful in real life too I believe.
My question is why do people feel the need to exploit their SS? Like is that REALLY necessary? It's supposed to be about charity...
