so I've been stalking this species for a bit, and I'd really love some pointers on becoming an owner >u>;;

I've read the front page and what not, but from the posts here since I've started lurking from the shadows, I do believe there's quite a bit more to the species than I originally thought.

I'm currently a non-owner and I've tried for a few, although I have a feeling I've been missing the mark on most of the competitions by a long while. And the no-edits rule got me the first time I tried. quq;

If you look at my themequids post, neither skelly or dragon quids are themequids. The skelly, roan, and dragon quids are simply mutations, not a certain theme. If they were, there would only be a few in existence. Like only 3 or 4.

Appys are also mutations, not themes. uvu

Are shines not almost kinda the same now? There seems to be quite a few around cx.

Hello! Welcome to the club/species!
Becoming an owner is ussually hard work, unless you just get lucky. How I got my first equid and the rest of my herd aside from one if through breeding. Have you herd about that yet?

Shines are still a theme, as only a few were made officially under the theme. Skelly babs and dragon babs became common, mostly because of how alike the quips would be. Kita made rules so the shine wasn't common for shine babs, so shine is still a theme uvu

they might be, considering they can't breed to one another ?? idk sorta vague gray area with the shinies.
But they weren't an event, so i guess they remain a theme.

There are only a few true shinequids in existence (Shark, Uno, Shimmer, aaand Nellas stally and Bentleys mare I can't remember the names of, and then Numinex was Doge's custom and he is shiny) c: A theme is limited to a certain number (around 4-6ish I believe). Or so I've heard. The other "shiny" WME's are probably the offspring, which cannot pass the gene on any further. The foals aren't considered shinyquids either.

So, I have a half shinequid, does this mean she can't have any shiney foals? For some reason I thought she could..? c:

Yes the shinequids are a theme, they cannot breed to each other and have specific rules they must follow.

This has been said before, but all offspring of themequids (for example, 'half-shines') are not part of the theme. So there are only 4 true shinequids (not counting Shimmer), any offspring that may exhibit a bit of shine are not part of the theme, and so are not shinequids at all.

Edit: just saw your post there, no she cannot have shiny foals because she is not a shinequid. She is just a foal with a bit of shine on her, not a theme
