I've never even watched a shonen - never plan to other than soul eater or yugioh and I watched soul eater a century ago. does death note count as shonen tho??

but your point on death note was gr8. I love animes where there is no bad guy. like, there's kill la kill - starts off with basically no villain. I mean ryuko's all "who kill my dad kiryuin satsuki did you kill my dad who kill my dad" that's like the whole first arc but there was no proof of satsuki killing her dead. you could root for both sides anyway. and who wins? both sides yay.

i like deaths that cause character development or add to the plot. i mean in pmmm mami's death adds to the plot bc than sayaka and madoka knew that being a magical girl was dangerous. same with sayaka's. also Leon and sayaka's death in dangan ronpa also make the characters know they're in danger. there's also those deaths where people die and some are just crying and seek vengeance. but that death in naruto sounds stupid.

@S o u d a: Yeah, FMA is great! Well, your post might explain why I have no motivation to watch more than 3 1/2 episodes of Fairy Tail, and why somebody on another website said that the Bleach anime got so bad that they had to end it.

@Naala: I sort of agree; FMA03's ending was sad, but it also nearly killed my interest in FMA, albeit for other reasons. (ie: AL BECOMING A TEN-YEAR-OLD)
Also I could never watch more than two episodes of Death Note because it was too depressing for me.

also how is death note depressing?? sure it's a bit psychological but psychological animes are r popular. e.g. nge and pmmm are some of the most popular animes tbh. and wixoss is good too.

That's why I LOVE the 'Battle Royale' style animes where the characters are forced into a situation where they have no choice but to fight and there really isn't a bad guy, other than the people that put them in that situation but they are barely ever shown, and you just watch the characters try and decide how to react to this situation. Do they do the 'just' thing and try to avoid it and try not to kill? Do they do the 'human' thing and wish to just get out of this mess and ONLY ever kill out of fear and panic for their own lives. Or do they do the 'I will win' thing where they decide they're going to do what it takes to win and leave their morals at the door.

I like to call these the Naegi reaction, the Leon reaction (aka my reaction I feel u Leon), and the Togami reaction.

But I LOVE these animes because I love seeing characters break down and react to extreme situations where the person they used to be could be completely thrown out the door. I love that tension and that character development and even when it's that same sort of 'Battle Royale' formula it's always a treat to watch because everyone reacts different and nothing is predictable. I mean none of the deaths in Dangan Ronpa were predictable the first time I read through it. For example, Ishimaru's was so sudden that I was actually taken aback. I could guess the killers okay but man did the victims throw me. LIKE IBUKI I DID NOT EXPECT WHY IBUKI WHY SDR2 SCREW THAT BYE.

But I love being thrown for a loop and there is nothing more I love then watching a character break down c:

Not really planning on watching NGE soon either, because apparently it's really confusing, not to mention that I kind of know the ending already.
Oh and Death Note is shounen because magazines.

TBH Just because something ran in Shounen Jump doesn't reduce it down to being a 'Shounen'.

How did somebody casually mentioning Sword Art Online turn into paragraph-rants?
Originally the only animes I was searching for were shounens, but I eventually decided to try out a bunch of different things. I couldn't find anything I genuinely liked for a while, then AnoHana happened.

except Akira is sort of one for a while but she loses her battles three times oh no no wish for Akira

but what even happened to Akira there's that one scene where she shows her scar and the police just "ai yo kids whatcha doin down there"
than Akira flees and oh no. where Akira.

BUT YES I LOVE THOSE ANIMES TOO
i think it was a bit obvious that celestia killed yamada bc celestia is really smart tbh and how she blamed it on hagakure was also really smart.

AND YES I H8 MIKAN OKAY POOR IBUKI. mikan had reason to kill hiyoko tbh bc hiyoko was v mean to her but ibuki. how dare she kill my girlfriend.

okay watching character's break down is entertaining but ryouga kamishiro's breakdown is why i cry at night.
