I feel these arguments.
I cannot stand when things work out too 'perfectly'. I hate the main character that is constantly getting more and more pointlessly and ridiculously overpowered and you know, you KNOW they're going to win the fight. Like Bleach. There came a point when the plot was absolutely pointless because you knew Ichigo would just win everything and no matter how much damage Aizen did Ichigo would have some over-powered blah di blah and would win the fight. It got old, it got annoying, and it got boring. It's why I don't watch the big shounens anymore, I got sick of it. And 90% of the deaths in Naruto anymore just seem like they're there to have someone die. Like Neji's death, for example. There was no real POINT to it, it was just there to have someone die.
And THAT is why I think those Shounens are over-rated to heck and back. There's nothing substantial to them, it's the same good guys winning formula over and over and over again, and I'm sick of it. Like don't get me wrong, I LOVE KHR, but it has a lot of these flaws too. The reason I prefer KHR is because of the characters. Their interactions are so genuine, and Tsuna is such a drastic difference in protag from the normal shounen, that there's something so enjoyable about him. He doesn't get ridiculously over-powered, it was actually sensible growth... for the most part but the ending was rushed and that wasn't Amano's fault so I'm not putting any blame on the last chunk of the last arc. I like having a protagonist that ISN'T striving to be 'the best' or shooting for anything. I like having a protagonist with a plain outlook, plain goals, and a very realistic reaction to the insanity around him. Tsuna is such a contrast to the majority of the cast that it's really enjoyable and you really, genuinely want to root for him. Not because he's the 'hero', but because he's a good person and his good qualities, his strength of will, heart, and kindness, shine through without having to be forced or over stated. Amano was DARN GOOD with character. Though KHR suffered with a lot of shounen flaws, curtsy of any long running manga, she had such a good grasp of character and realistic, warm, inspiring friendships that didn't feel over-stated that I enjoyed KHR regardless of the 'good guy' winning formula. Don't get me wrong, there's a LOT of flaws to KHR and some things that drive me crazy, but I would take it over Bleach, Naruto and One Piece any day. I'd take Tsuna over Ichigo, Naruto, or Luffy any day.
Either way, I've strayed far from shounens and found I prefer other genres. Where you can't predict the endings and they aren't following the same tired good guy wins no matter what and constantly gets more and more powered up formula that was probably Dragonball's fault. I like ambiguous endings. I like having questions when I'm finished reading something. I like manga that demand an audience participation, one of the reason I love Death Note because you can root for Light or L and the manga gives compelling reasons for both, it doesn't ever tell you who is really just. You're left to decide for yourself if Kira was a good thing for the world or not. And the manga doesn't just let 'the good guys win', it is a darn realistic STRUGGLE where EITHER SIDE could have one but one tiny moment pushed one side ahead of the other. It's so well written in the climax, because Light was SO CLOSE to a complete victory, but that one little unpredictable action by Mello and Mikami's very understandable response to it screwed over all his plans. THAT is how you do a climax. THAT is not just 'the good guys winning'. Especially when the manga doesn't try to completely outline Light as a 'villian'.
Maybe I take my manga too seriously, I mean a lot of shounen are all in good fun, I'm just done with them. Sick of the formula, sick of the ridiculously overpowered protagonist, and sick of deaths without any meaning whatsoever just to add 'tension'.
At least FMA avoids this. Thank you FMA for being wonderful.
THIS WAS A RAMBLE IM SORRY FRIENDS
