As for the story, my oldest died of a tumor and the others didn't eat her. They mourned.

Pet rats have been known to eat each other, but usually only if they are hungry. Generally rats will mourn the loss of another

I was thinking that would probably be the reason why they'd eat another rat.

When my hubby's rat, Ratbert, died, mine (Cosmo) died not too much longer. He just pined away. We were feeding him baby food just to get food down him. He would not cheer up at all. They are such social, sweet creatures.

Speaking of rats, would this be a good place to find people to find rattie trades? I can never find anyone who will trade rats for rats. D: I want to get some rats I am missing, but if I took the trades they offered, I would end up with nothing but duplicate rats and no one to trade them TO.

To be honest, Ive never heard of a healthy/well fed rat eating another cage mate, even if its dead.
Rats are generally very social and mourn the loss of another.

I know in some species, they will eat their dead to hid the sent, etc, but rats dont generally do that.
