Wild rats only carry disease for the same reason any wild animal does: parasites and lack of a clean environment that domestic animals have. Feral cats carry disease, wild birds carry disease, wild wolves carry disease. Yet we have domestic versions of all of them.

Speaking of showers, has anyone else heard that rats are supposed to like water and then have rats who are pertified of it? My rats hate playing in water, but on the internet it says rats are supposed to like water.

My rat is scared stiff of water. Can't give her a bath without getting scratched. :] I think it's fine, though I wish Crissie would like water, I've seen rats on youtube who like and it's cute.. v__v;

How should our rats carry disease? They were never outside of a cage or a room in a house. So HOW should they carry diseases? It's really annoying when people think like this. </3

Yeah, I've watched videos of rats diving into tanks filled with water (no fish or anything) and playing in tubs and stuff. But when I take mine to the bath tub or sink they claw my arms trying to get up onto my shoudlers to hide behind my hair.

To the first paragraph, ditto. I've seen rats that adore water, but my babies. Uh-uh. To the second, Yes! Aphrodite loves tickling my neck and ear with her little whiskers. <3
