The first one is breeding 17 litters this year!? If each litter had 10 babies, that's 170 rats. I don't think they sound good at all. :?
The other is breeding a lot less, 5, but still that's a lot.
I would stick to a rescue if you can.

5 litters is not a lot if you are a serious breeder, because there are lots of good rat owners who wants to buy from you. It´s not as if you´ll have 60 babies that noone wants. There is always a demand for well-bred rats.

Rat Dippity Rattery is a well known breeder and always has a waiting list.
5 litters is not alot for a rattery in truth.

WolfGodess(Wolfy!) wrote:i was wondering if Petco and/or PetSmart r good places to get rats, cuase iv been without 1 for 3 months so im starting to get lonely but i wanna make sure that im getting them from a good place, all other rats i got died within a yr and thats where i got them from, and i got Ally from i think petsmart and she lived for 4 yrs, so idk if there bad or good
if their not good and u have ideas on a good breeder pls tell me, please list breeders in the UnitedStates,Michigan areas only(if ur talking to me)

EWWWWWWWWW. Sorry, I know this was already answered, but HELL NO. e-e PetSmart caused me so much heartbreak. My first rat, Sherlock, I got from there. When I got him home and cozy, he wheezed and sneezed like crazy. So, we took him to the vet and he said that poor little Sherlock had days to live. So, my grandma returned him. The worst part is, when we went back to get food and stuff, they were re-selling him. >> They're terrible about pets like that.

Definitely get 2 rats.... they are social animals and will be so much happier in pairs or trios :)

Sorry for the confusion. 17 litters isn't right was my point.
Not trading.

Would another vet not see her if you suggested the medicine? By Tuesday she could be a lot, lot worse.... she really needs to see the vet. I'd suggest Baytril and Prednisalone/Dexmethasone (a steroid injection and antibiotic injection).... good luck.

Thank you very, very much for your advice and help with this; I was able to find another vet, and Reagan got started on Baytril yesterday. c:

Yay! (:

You can hide the baytril in a little food. We use baby food jar lids, so a tiny amount of ice cream, melt the ice cream and mix in the baytril.

Thank you for the recommendation, Reagan appears to really enjoy 'medicine time' because of it. xD <3

Also, do any of you have ideas as to what I could put in my rats' cage during the day to keep them occupied while I'm not there? c:
[I've given them many boxes and toys and such to play with, but they grow bored with things quite quickly. ^^;]

What I do is I will take away a toy for a day or two, then give it to them again, and they are like "Yay! A new Toy" and its keeps them busy for few days then I switch them out again, always works XD
