Caved in and bought one double mine set: got 1 present (croesus fortune), 1 bone and 4 relics. This doesn't really seem worth the pass.
What gifts have you guys found? For me it's only the cheap stuff.

to begin with, i recommend a more well known horse, like an arab or thoroughbred, as there are more horses of that breed available to buy which would boost the skills. then, when you're a little more confident, try a breed that isn't as well known. I started breeding paint horses, and then bred arabs in an unofficial breeding group, Parisian Arabians, and now I breed brumbies, draft horses as well. I hope this helps

Personally i would and do breed what I want to breed, not what is worth a lot or is easy to buy. If i like it, then i breed it.
But while the common breeds are easier to buy and have good skills, they don't tend to actually be worth that much, unless the horse is particularly good. Wheras with the rarer breeds, yes they can be a pain to purchase, but i think you would probably be more likely to get a bit more money from selling them. Of course it's completely up to you what you decide to breed and we can spout facts all day long and it might not help your decision.

While I think Polly44 has a valid point about breeding what you want; going for a rarer/newer breed will hamper the speed at which you can progress -unless you have a lot of money to throw passes and equus at the game. Equally however, I steered clear of the TBs and arabs precisely because they're such popular breeds; as Polly mentioned already; you'll have a hard time making money off them unless you can get into the elite breeders groups asap.

I personally breed KWPNs at a leisurely rate and am hugely content with plodding along with them haha.

I'd say start with whatever you feel like doing. You can always change in your game. I started out with Hanoverians, then switched to Thoroughbreds. Currently I am breeding a mix of Quarter Horses, Paints, and Appaloosas. I do this because it's fun for me so I get enjoyment out of it. That really helps, if you enjoy it, it makes it a lot more fun (and it seems easier too) to play!
