As I scooped her into my arms I could see a glossy set of purple jewels shining up at me from a sea of calm ocean scales. I stroked the downy soft crest of her head and snuggled her in to my chest as her little new wings flapped delicately, trying to catch the wind but far too fragile to take flight. I held my precious baby close to me. I didn't set out to welcome another baby into my life, but as I felt the faint flutter of her heartbeat I was so glad I did.
