KARKAT EXPLINATION THEORY
I really hate bursting your singular hope bubble, but Karkat isn't going God Tier. Those hummingbirds are just a part of Jade's planet, like the fireflies on the Land of Wind and Shade. They all just congregate around the player when they go GT. You'll notice that both the hummingbirds and the fireflies are around both before and after John and Jade acsended. I think the whole thing was just a callback to that one scene that I believe was in or around [S]: Make her pay where Nepeta was jumping on Equius in the same manner. Hussie does do a lot of those vague brick jokes, you just have to watch out for them.

But there were none around before Karkat died, and when Jade died she was covered with them because the totem creature of her planet is hummingbirds, like with John it's fireflies.
So with Karkat on Jades planet, he would/is be covered in hummingbirds when going God Tier, if he were on Johns planet it would be Fireflies. But maybe Hussie is just doing the thing you said. v.v

What? No, that's not how God tier works. Let's all calm down and look at this rationally. The Heroic/Just thing only works if the player had already ascended. That's why Nepeta and Equius are dead, even though their deaths were neither heroic nor just, they still died because they never went God Tier. And you can only ascend in one of two ways: either you die on your quest bed/coccoon and morph with your dreamself, or if you dreamself is dead, you can go to the center of your moon on Prospit/Derse and die on a sacrificial slab without morphing. None of the trolls can go god tier anymore, everyone's dreamself died and both Prospit and Derse were totally destroyed by Bec Noir. Nope, Jane's gonna bring Karkat back to life and there's nothing we can do otherwise.

welp, back from a bike ride with my dad. there were so many fireflies! and the cicadas were really loud too.. it was like a mating/communicating fest over there.
anyways, sorta-back on topic, I finished my fantroll, Camola Regals! considering I managed to do it with a mouse, I'm actually proud of myself this time. I've got her personality down, now I just need to think of a typing quirk, a chumhandle, and a title and aspect for her. (I'm currently taking the god-tier quiz for her, so this should be interesting..)
