Could have sworn it said just concerned parents but oh well. Derpy to me is just like those big fat flies that get into the house and buzz a ton while they fly around. Gah those things are annoying. The only thing that could ever possibly change my mind about her is a headcanon in an excellent story I read the other day. I don't find her offensive or anything she just annoys me and all the hype over her is incredibly annoying as well. Someone actually had the nerve to say I'm not a "true brony" because I don't like her. Frankly that just made me hate her all the more.

I told my dad about Derpy and he said that he thinks that the handicapped or impaired people would love Derpy because they included her as a character that's sweet and loveable.
I understand why so many people love her, and I do too. But I can also understand why people wouldn't like her. She sorta turned out like Gir from Invader Zim in some ways. A ton of the clothes and merch are based off Derpy, which is what also happened to Gir.

They got over it eventually, but my dad yelled at me and told me I shouldn't be watching it..

My mom is the one in my house completely against it. My dad occasionally holds it over my head and makes fun of me though. Honestly, my friends
[not counting internet friends] aren't real supportive of me being a brony either.

And to answer the question about pony merch most of my things are hidden away. I'm a closet pegasister, literally thats where I hide most of my merchandise. I really want to give my MLP comic books framed for some reason, then I can hang it up ext to my other strangely framed things XD

My family pretty much accepted the fact that I love MLP since I've pretty much been crazy about anything that has an equine of any sort on/in it since I was 4. :I

What bugs me no end is that I can't decide whether to fully expose the fact that I'm crazy about MLP to my classmates or not. I did it in 8th grade and I don't think I would have ever lived it down if they didn't remix all the students when I entered 9th grade. It's a fresh start now, but I kinda have to pretend to not like MLP in front of my classmates. =n=

In Middle School people make fun of you for liking mlp, then you get to High School and everybody is crazy about it.
You pretty much can like what you wanna like in high school and not get made fun of.

Derpy is just an overrated character everyone loves to much, in a few years she wont be popular, and maybe MLP wont be either(maybe).

A villain combo. Nightmare Flair and Queen Chrysalis would be a fabulous duo. Also BonBon and Big Mac dating, 1. so I could see my otp lol and 2. MAJOR TROLLING I could just so troll the fandom and then see how many people cried because LyraBon was not canon.

I really want a royal foal to be born in Season 4 c: It'd make a fantastic season finale- and they could announce Cadence's pregnancy sometime within the series, or even at the end of the season premiere. They've already had the Cake family have foals, so the concept of pregnancy and childbirth shouldn't be a problem for the producers... Although we never saw a pregnant model of Mrs Cake in the first season :s

Speaking of child's show and such, I was reminded of the whole Derpy Hooves controversy, what's your thoughts?

Derpy's first appearance was in an episode not even related to her, and she was just in the background, doing pretty much nothing. The fanbase fell in love with her design, and started making up stories about her and how she'd fit into the episodes later in the series. The fanbase named her Derpy for unknown reasons; and the name was circulated SO MUCH that the creators had even heard about it, and wanted to please the fans. Thus, the screenwriters re-named Ditzy Doo to Derpy in honor of the fanbase.

EDIT: I think I agree with RD's statements about "Basketball" and "South Park" and how they may have been the reasons why fans named her Derpy.

An episode aired with Derpy in it, and in the episode, Derpy was portrayed as a klutzy, accident-prone pony with slightly-slurred speech. Rainbow Dash called her by her name in the episode, telling her to be careful, and not break anything more than she already had. After the episode aired, the fanbase went nuts. Most fans absolutely loved the shout-out, and loved how Derpy was portrayed. Some of the other fans went nuts in a BAD way. They sent angry e-mails to the creators and screenwriters of the show, expressing their disgust that Hasbro would introduce a "retarded" character into a TV show for children. The screenwriters were puzzled. What had they done to cause such an outrage? They went back and watched the episode, seeing nothing wrong with any of the lines they had incorporated. Several angry e-mails later, they looked into the definition of "derpy." Unknown to the screenwriters, there are different definitions of "derpy." The most common definition is "klutzy, clumsy, embarrassing, and awkward," which is the definition that the screenwriters thought they were using in the show. Part of the fanbase took the other definition of "derpy" - "mentally retarded" - and assumed that is what the screenwriters must have meant when giving that character her name.

The screenwriters made known that out of the hundreds of e-mails they'd received, only around 10 were negative, indicating that only a small percentage of the fans were upset. No matter how the screenwriters responded to the situation, they knew at least some of the fans would be hurt. After bouncing ideas back and fourth, Hasbro and the Hub ordered the screenwriters to change Derpy's name to "Ditzy Doo" and also change her voice so it wasn't so slurred. Hasbro and the Hub also ordered the screenwriters to edit out Derpy's name. The screenwriters, having practically no say in the issue, complied. Most of the fanbase did not like the change, and complained to the Hasbro and the Hub about this. Hasbro and the Hub stuck with their change, and didn't comply to the wishes of the majority of the fans.

Personally, I think that the fans really overreacted. Derpy was NEVER meant to be an insult, and some fans simply took it that way. *facepalm* I actually thought the shout-out was sweet, and, if anything, showed that Hasbro and Hub loved their fans and wanted them to be happy. If the negatively-reacting fans hadn't e-mailed those messages, we'd still have the old Derpy. Yes, I don't like that she changed, but it's not like I can do anything about it. Just sit here and tell you guys how seriously unfair it was that people decided to change her over a couple of e-mails. *shrugs*
