Balin will remain my favorite dwarf, because, don't get me wrong. Anything to do with Tolkien I lovelovelove, like, you have no idea and I'm too exhausted even from these three workdays to want to get into that right now :3 And the movies are sweeping and epic and, well, I shouldn't have to explain all that seeing as you guys share these feelings. It's just when it comes down to it, I'm a Tolkien purist, so if it really does come down to it I'm on his side, not Peter Jackson's, as well as he means and amazing as the guy is. Now if there's anything I love, it's the telling of a good story- it's what first drew me to Tolkien- but I don't take changes to the story lightly even if they are by Peter Jackson, until I can watch the movie myself and be drawn into this other version of Middle-earth. Decide for myself whether I'll accept the twists as they come. You know what I mean? Gahh I feel so criticizing and harsh ^^ Really I'm not as serious as I seem, I can't emphasize how much love and respect goes to Peter Jackson from me. It's just that Tolkien is first, even above Peter Jackson, because, well, he's Tolkien, and the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were what drew me to Peter Jackson in the first palce. Aaaand I don't remember where I was going with this! ^^ But hopefully you catch my drift.
No, I believe it was the other way around! Remember, Tauriel doesn't actually exist... Kili's supposed to have a love interest in her, but one that's not returned, at least that's what I heard. I just wanted to say that :3

Gosh, I seriously hope the whole thing between Kili and Tauriel is more of a Gimli-Galadriel thing. I'd hate for them to ruin my favorite dwarf with a romance!

I actually usually approve the changes Peter Jackson made to the film. (I know I´m going to get killed for this, but I have to say it) I think it was ok that he removed Tom Bombadil, for example. Yes, I would have liked him to add it, but I didn´t mind him taking him out, because: 1) It would slow down the film and take up loads of time
2)So therefore we wouldn´t have time for other awesome things like Moria (just think... the film is already four hours long without Tom Bombadil!)
3) They never said that they didn´t visit him. They just simply didn´t put it on screen.

I hate how some filmakers completely mess up the story (films like Eragon, for example). But Peter Jackson did such an amazing job that I can forgive him for the things he took out and added, because, after all, film is way different than a book. They don´t have the same pacing, and I think all the scriptwriters understood that, but without disrespecting the book. However, I dislike soppy romance, so if they are going to overdo it with Kili and Tauriel, then I will be a bit angry

Oh no, we totally respect your opinion! I would have liked him to add it too, because I'd watch the movie no matter how long it was (the more the better!), yet I do realize that there are time constraints even for an at-least-three-hour movie, and I respect Peter Jackson's decisions to change things that he did, not just that, the only thing being that it goes even a little against Tolkien's original word. That doesn't mean I hate Peter Jackson or anything, I totally love the guy XD

Ah, but Tauriel and Legolas are different. Legolas, although he is not mentioned in the book, is actually there. Tolkien doesn´t mention him, but the dwarves are basically (spoiler)imprisoned in his house, sort of. So all the time that they are there, Legolas is around all the time, he´s just not mentioned. They spend a lot of time in Mirkwood, but Tolkien never described all that happened while they were there, so there was loads of time when Legolas could have met all the dwarves, only it was never mentioned.
However, Tauriel is different. Not only she isn´t mentioned by Tolkien, but she isn´t even created. Tolkien never said she exists. She´s simply a Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Phillipa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro´s invention. That doesn´t mean I don´t like her, in fact, I think it´s great that they are adding a female character (otherwise there aren´t any females) AND she´s a Mirwood elf! I love Mirkwood!
