I liked the episode, overall. I felt like it was a bit rushed, perhaps in need of a two-parter and ending where she disappeared, but it went pretty well. I loved the songs, especially when Celestia sung. That's quite how I pictures her voice to be. However Twilight has been in the spotlight and now she's a princess- however I'm oddly pleased with the result and I am looking on the bright side of things. I'm quite curious to see how this is played out.

So let's say she didn't become an alicorn. What would have happen in season 4? No more lessons, or they would just be repeated over and over again.
So Twilight's character was finished and couldn't be explored more. And the option of being a princess opens up a large palette of adventures.

Who knows, maybe Twilight'll get to play diplomat and this starts opening up not just new places in Equestria, but the overall world, which could bring up some interesting stories involving culture clash and all, though those could be a bit... tricky to pull off xD But yeah, as she was? Twilight was pretty much done with her character growth. She'd overcome her hesitation over 'showing off' her magic, she's learned the importance of having friends; even Cadence has finally taught her how to calm down and not panic over everything xD Seeing Twilight in a position where she is to teach, rather than learn, opens up a lot more and will help keep the show fresh, rather than falling into repeating lessons we've already seen.

Maybe a new generation of ponies could be good. I think all the other mane 6 have overcome their inner battles and have fully developed their characters. It would be nice for new (signifigant) characters to join the story. Maybe a new antagonist who had more than two or three episodes.
