I dropped my DSlite on the tile floor ('cause I was an idiot and stretched the recharger strand too far and my brother tripped on it and ripped it out of my hands). When I turned it back on, the entire top screen was white. So...I turned it off and on quite a few times, and....still white. Nothing I did helped it. So...I sent it into the Nintendo Headquarters and they charged me $50 to fix it up. For two to three years after that it was perfect. They fixed everything. Now...the screen has gone white again. It's not worth my sending it in again, as the entire touch screen (bottom screen) is scratched beyond repair. My Nintendo DSlite has lasted a total of 6 years, and I now need a new one. My brother has a Nintendo DS (the original version) and he's had it for 6 years. The only thing wrong with that is that he's never calibrated the touch screen, so it's a bit fussy with the touch. But that's the only thing wrong with it! It's in perfect condition!

Is this infuriating, or what? I take WAY better care of my things than my brother does, but his DS is still in nearly perfect condition. I blame the company for screwing up a perfectly good design.

My DS, Shimmer, has a lot of battle scars.
My cousin got jealous and threw her down a flight of stairs. She was scratched up but still worked.
My little brother did the same thing when he was 3. Again, she got a few scrapes.
I started covering the scratches with black, red and silver nail polish. I thought she'd never break.
She survived me, my little brother, my best friend's 3 kids and my dog who thought she was a chew toy. But she always worked. The speakers were perfect, the screen looked almost new... until...
I was sitting at the kitchen table... she was near the corner... my friend bumped her and she fell onto the hard wood floor. I thought, "no big deal" well... the piece that connects the screens on the right side broke clean off but she still works! Now I have to handle her with care so the whole top screen doesn't fall off.
After that, she survived a car accident. Her charger didn't make it.
So now she sits in a box, surrounded by old clothes so she doesn't get hurt anymore. She'll stay in there until I can get someone to repair her and find a new charger.

My Lovely DS Shimmer has a new charger!!!
My best friend's boyfriend gave me his extra charger so he's have someone to trade Pokemon with. lol XD
And, my fiance rigged up a clip for my DS so the screen isn't so wobbly.
I love the people around me. <3

I have the Lite but I am still mad at nintendo for making all of the other DS models. Am I allowed to join? xD

Well, I will say this. My parents are not big games so I wasn't really aware of video games a long time ago. Then my friend got this awesome handheld device where you could own puppies (nintendogs) and live and manage a town (animal crossing). I loved playing on her original so I started saving my money. When I started saving, money was hard for me to earn, as I still got presents instead of money for my birthdays and Christmases, and by the time I had enough, the originals had been replaced by the lites.

The lites aren't as indestructable as the originals, as I've heard, but I have a miracle story of my own. I was walking around our kitchen with my DS in it's not-very-secure case when it falls out and hits the tile floor.If the hit didn't kill it, the tears sure did. The right button had broken off, but it looked worse than it was. But all it took was some super glue and voila! Just like new! Except, the right button doesn't work.

0.0 A lite that didn't die when it got dropped??? Now that is actually pretty cool.
And you probably could've found a used original for less then a new lite. Just saying.

I know that now but I was pretty young when I bought it.

And yeah, it was pretty amazing that it didn't break. But I bought the Lite like the month it was released so Nintendo might of still making durable devices.

my lite fell like 20 times (from tables, onto concrete floors, etc) but its still alive! xD Its a bit lopsided, but its still works fine xD

How is the 3DS as far as durability? A few of my friends have one but they keep there's in silk boxes rigged up with shock absorbers. they're nutty about electronics.
