From his family Night was always the odd one out.

His father was a life guard and spent his days at the beach.

His mother was a nurse who thought of herself to be more of a retired model.

He had two sisters so apart from his dad who was rarely around anyway he was the only boy in the house. His sister Emily was much younger than him and liked to play with her toys, Night of course had no interest in the girly things that she liked to play with. Emily often got Night in trouble, she ran to their mother crying whenever something didn't go her way and a night was always the one she blamed.

The other sister was Ember. She was already well in the stage of being a teenager so she was much older than Night. He didn't get along too well with her either since she spent her time with things he found stupid like doing her makeup and her hair.

Night might not have gotten along with his family so well but he had his best friend Max as well as his two dogs Malk and Dragon.
Already in September Night was beginning to make plans for Halloween. He would of course go together with Max and he would bring his two dogs along with him. That didn't need much planning but his costume did. It wasn't that he lacked ideas, he had too many of them! In the end his top two choices were either a dragon or a vampire. He had dragon wings and a pair of fangs as well as a few parts of his costumes from previous years. Before choosing what he would wear he picked outfits for Malk and Dragon. He dressed Malk as a horned Mutant and dragon as a .... dragon!
The days and then weeks past, Halloween drew nearer. Night's excitement grew but so did his worry. He still hadn't picked his costume. He had tried out all sorts of different things but he just couldn't choose what to wear. It wasn't until the night before Halloween before Night finally made up his mind. He would wear his dragon wings, fangs and monster horns. He would make his hair spiky and even put on some of Ember's eye liner. He would be what he called a Emo-Drapire Monster.
The next day Night spent a long time in his room putting on his costume then those of Dragon and Malk. He looked in the mirror upon his fearsome image in delight. The excitement that he was feeling was overwhelming! He could feel the butterflies in his stomach. Tonight was Halloween, his time had finally come and he was convinced that he and his two companions had the coolest costumes of them all. They would get all the candy and his class mates and sisters would all be jealous.

Hair gelled up, both pet dogs as well as himself dressed, Night was ready to to. He rushed down the stairs in excitement just in time to hear Emily wailing about wanting to go trick or treating too. "Your too small" he sniggered at her before grabbing his bag and a ghost shaped balloon and heading towards the door quickly. His mother hadn't heard him otherwise he would have been scolded for the comment towards Emily. He usually wouldn't have said anything to her anyway but he was feeling like the Monster he was dressed up to be.
Out the door and into the grey dusk he went. Around milled other children dressed up in all sorts of costumes. He stood for a moment checking out the costumes and comparing them to his own. Some made him snigger slightly, he didn't find them in any way scary.

Others he had to admit were scary, it seemed a lot had worn the same monster horns as he had.

He hurried down the street, Malk and Dragon scampering close behind him towards Max's house. When he arrived he didn't even have to ring the bell of his friends house. Max was already standing outside waiting.

With a wag of his tail Night greeted Max happily. Excitedly the pair rushed off down the street eager to show off their costumes and gather some treats. A large house loomed up ahead, the doorway was free of other trick or treaters. The light was lit dimly and decorations hung around looking eery in the faint glow of the light. "Lets go to that one" Night declared bravely. He headed up the path, Max hung back slightly with Malk and Dragon standing behind him trembling. Night arrived at the door on his own. He mustered his courage then taking a deep breath rung the bell. The door creaked open slowly. Night drew in a sharp breath before exclaiming
"Trick or Treat!"
