Gak got on my nerves as well. Especially when it was advertised back to back and the number of times it was shown! I don't care if it glows in the dark or if you can blow bubbles with it.

Things I liked about the Season 3 Premiere:
TWILIGHT SPARKLE. Now, I love Twilight. Always have, always will. But I haven't truly looked up to her until this episode. She thought she was going to fail the test, but ended up choosing to fail to save her friends. Her priorities were in the right place, and she ended up winning more than she lost.
I absolutely adored the part where she used dark magic as well. It gave me goosebumps.
SPIKE. Finally. Spike actually sings! I was grinning ear to ear when I heard him sing. Also, he was a major part of the episode. For a change, Spike gets to be the hero. It was really nice.
"I WASN'T PREPARED TO DO MY BEST..." Did anyone else almost squeal when Rarity started singing Twilight's song? If my family hadn't been around while I was watching it, I probably would've cried and/or screamed. And I don't even LIKE Rarity's voice. It was just...a beautiful and touching moment. It was the perfect ending to a great episode.
SONGS. Man, this music is catchy. I can't believe how amazing it was to hear the music in surround sound. (I had listened to the leaked versions of the songs on youtube, so I already had all the lyrics memorized. ) They sounded beautiful.
THE ANIMATION. I can't believe the amazing animation. Was it just me, or did it seem clearer, more beautiful, and more astounding then the previous seasons?

Things I didn't like:
SOMBRA = BAD VILLAIN. I think if he was given more screen-time and a better past, his character would have been improved. His past should have been shown in a bit more detail. After all the hype about him, I am extremely disappointed.
LUNA NOT DOING ANYTHING. And, mares and gentlecolts.....it happens again. AGAIN. *facepalm* Luna is in an episode where she only talks to Twilight. Ring any bells? Oh, yes. That's exactly what happened in the Season 2 Finale. X( Hasbro, Y U NO GIVE ME MOAR LUNA?!

I totally agree on the things you loved. Shining Armor, Cadence- THE CRYSTAL PONIES. oh I think I died<3 they were beautiful, so well animated!
But the things you dislike are the same for me too- Sombra was a horrible villain. He looked like he just came out of a ponymaker. And he said next to nothing! His magic was cool though.
And again with the no-Luna! What's up with hasbro?! Seriously.
One thing I loved was the music. It was amazing- and I wish hasbro would release more background songs- the stuff without words. I especially loved the music when Twilight's in the trance, and she begins to cry- and you can hear the fear in Spikes voice as he calls for her.
My heart broke- if I hadn't been struggling to uphold my reputation as someone who never cries in movies I would've bawled.

I wish we could've seen Spikes trance from his point of view- not Twilight's.

I love the Dark Magic that both Sombre (sp?), Princess Celestia and Twilight use. One thing more that I would've loved is if when Twilight steps out after the 'test' and her friends are all worried...is that she was an Alicorn. It would've made me so happy. HASBRO Y U NO THINK OF THESE THINGS.
I'm hoping for better villains. King Sombre would've been the best...well, maybe, if he had more background.
Maybe that's why Hasbro kept moving it back a month- because it wasn't their best and they wanted people to watch it, so they kept putting it off to get people's attention. XD

I didn't see a single Gak Commercial because I recorded it. The most rememberable part for me was Rainbow Dash jousting.

Mine was when Twilight was in the trance and she saw the window and started crying, then when you hear Spike's frightened voice calling her name. It broke my heart. And the end! I love them all as Crystal Ponies.
