Y.A.C.S. - Youth Archers of CS!

Postby Pure Dragon » Mon Jul 02, 2012 5:00 am

We're addicted to a different kind of crack... the crack of an arrow hitting the bullseye!
(For you technical people - yes, I know an arrow makes a thump, not a crack. But your argument is irrelevant. x3 )

I just realized something. There are no archery clubs on CS! Sure, lots of archery fans - I've seen them on threads for The Avengers, or The Hunger Games, or Percy Jackson... but no threads for archers. I guess I just fixed that. So welcome, youth archers!

I'm a highschool freshman (starting next year) who loves archery. Guessing by the fact that you're here, you love archery too. Here you can talk about archery - from types of bows, to tips and tricks, to where the best spot to shoot a deer is. If it's about archery, it's welcome! I hope this thread can be helpful to both beginners and experienced archers alike, and that everyone has fun! Also, note that you don't have a bow to be here - if you're thinking about getting one or trying to decide what's best for you, we can help! ^^

~ Rules ~
1) Follow all Tess's rules, of course.
2) If you're an experienced archer, please try to answer any questions that the beginners have.
3) Likewise, if you're a beginner, please be polite when receiving help - even if you think their suggestions aren't for you.
4) There's no reason to rant about someone else's choice of bow, broad-head, or anything else - if you want to state your opinion, do it calmly.
5) Generally, be polite and respect other members of this thread.

If you want to be a full member of Y.A.C.S, just fill out the form. Guests are welcome to use this thread as well, though. ^^

I'm sort of a member by default, but here's my form anyways:

Username: Pure Dragon
Nickname (what you'd like us to call you): Pure
Would you rate yourself as beginner, intermediate, or experienced archer? (please be honest): Beginner, but I'm quickly getting better. I've been shooting at least 30 times a day everyday since I got my bow a week or two ago.
Preferred type of bow (recurve, compound, etc.): Recurve, no question. I own a 60" Firebird recurve by Bear Archery, 35 lb. draw weight, 22 - 28" draw length.
Preferred type (target, field, flight, etc.): For the most part I do outdoor target archery, but I think field archery would be fun.
Do you hunt or hope to hunt in the future?: Yes, I hope to hunt in the future! First I need to improve my aim and get strong enough for a bow poundage more suited to taking down deer, though.
Do you compete or hope to compete in the future?: I hope to compete in the future as well, probably starting this fall. My local archery store/indoor range/etc. has begun hosting its own league competitions, so when I'm ready I'll get the info for that. If I'm good enough maybe I'll go for other tournaments like state and nationals.
Preferred aiming technique? (Barebow or sight)?: I shoot barebow by instinctive shooting. Instinctive shooting is arguably the hardest to learn and requires the most dedication, but I think it's more rewarding, more accurate than a sight, and just plain cooler. x3

Hey, Pure! (( I would've joined sooner but I had lunch xP))

Username: Rai-kun
Nickname (what you'd like us to call you): Rai
Would you rate yourself as beginner, intermediate, or experienced archer? (please be honest): Beginner, and it looks it'll stay that way until my dad gets off his lazy butt and buys me more arrows. And you can't exactly practice in suburban areas >.<;
Preferred type of bow (recurve, compound, etc.): Compound/Recurve. I'm getting a recurve in addition to my compound. I haven't decided which one I like better.
Preferred type (target, field, flight, etc.): Outdoor target, I guess.
Do you hunt or hope to hunt in the future?: Yes, absolutely! But I need to get better before I can actually have a chance at taking down a deer.
Do you compete or hope to compete in the future?: Possibly, but I'm not entirely sure.
Preferred aiming technique? (Barebow or sight)?: Barebow! I'd probably break the sight by accident if I had one. ^^; Plus, shooting accurately without a sight is awesome. (It's impressive and makes you look cool xD)

. . . . Don't arrows make a "thock" sound when hitting a target? xP

Rai-kun: Yup, I'll be gone for a while, guys. Ya know, movin' and all. :/ I might be back on after high school settles down, but we'll just have to see how everything pans out!

:P Didn't you ready my note? Thock, thump, whatever you want to call it. x3 Crack is the only thing I could come up with for a catchy motto...

Did you know Santa Fe Archery started having league contests in January? If they have a recurve/youth/beginner devision then we can enter it! Also they have the ranges there and at Jack Brook's and you can come shoot at my house. (All of which was probably completely pointless info that you already knew. xD)

Barebow is definitely cooler and more impressive. LOL can't wait to see everyone's faces at school when we show up to archery class and hit a bullseye first try! We'd be all like, "Oh yeah, oh yeah, bet ya wish you could do that! :p" *struts around gym* xD

Awesome! But I need to get better before I can even hope of entering with any chance to win xD And I need more arrows. My neighbor still hasn't given back two, either. (They flew into his yard. Busted straight through the wood fence.)

Yes, I read the note. You should have known that I would have have commented about it xD

Lol, I don't really blame him. xD I wouldn't give you yo arrows either. (Maybe for a small fee >:3) JK Anways, know the best part about state/national/whatever archery tournaments? You don't have to "qualify" like gymnastics and stuff!

Yes, yes... come to think of it I was subconsciously suspecting you'd say that. x3

. . . . What. I don't even know what that means. (Well, I probably do, but I wouldn't be able to explain it without confusing you.)

That reminds me, remember in 6th grade when we would finish each other's sentences? That was fun. . . . That makes me think of how me and my mom are always saying the exact same things in the same way at the same time. Like we were playing pictionary or something any my sister's trying to draw something but she keeps flinging her hand around. We both were silent for a moment before saying, "Epilepsy?" it was confusing T^T

*dies* What if Cameron was walking by and one of the beginner's accidentally shot him? xDDD And we'd be strutting around all like "See? We're the pros. We can hit a bullseye barebow and you're stuck shooting people." *cue laughter*

Well for some (I think most) competitions you have to "qualify" by placing high enough in smaller tournaments.

Yup...

Ah yes, bad creepy stalkers ruining archery class = gone. Cool, maybe....oh, we could offer tutoring for archery!! I AM A GENIUS. I'm smart but can't teach worth a crap, but with archery there's not really the same... understanding? as say math or something. Like, "Hold the knock of the arrow with your finger pads; pointer finger above the nock, middle and ring finger below the knock." It's sort of self-explanatory.

We just have to ban wierd guys from our tutoring... by "wierd guys" I mean the creepers who want tutoring just to have us be touching their arms/hands/legs/shoulders/whatever to make sure they're in the correct form and don't actually try to improve their aim... (or even try to make it worse so they can have an excuse for more "tutoring" O.o)

Yes! I was right!

Yeah, you could do tutoring. I'm a bit too . . . introverted to do that. I'd probably get tired of all the social-ness and end up snapping at my student.

Pure, only you would come up with that when you don't even know who is in our archery class xD
