NeonSpirits wrote:While there weren't all that many patrons in the small coffee shop, and those that actually stayed seemed far too interested in their own worlds to mind what was happening around them, Ken was right. They had to be careful. There was always the small fact of video cameras. Wincing slightly, she shrugged apologetically. That particular emotion lasted for all about a second.
"You're in a coffee house, so you get coffee." She shot back, playful smile tugging at her lips. Sometimes, she forgot her friend didn't share her love for the bean-based drink; though she made a mental note to get him some tea or hot coco before he left. It really was too cold outside to go without something to warm your insides, and Maddie was not about to let her friend get sick. Especially not today. Grinning in slight complacency, her blue eyes darted around the room, making sure no one was paying them too much interest as she took a slow sip of her drink. The idea of breaking into a library had originally made her feel uneasy- not due of the criminal act itself, but more because she had grown up to believe books were special, and should be treated as such. Now though, with storybook endings turning into twisted tales, they didn't have much of a choice. Curiosity and concern was only amplified when the government had shutdown all public libraries with the excuse of having only the book's protection at heart. Maddie wasn't so sure that was the case. She just smirked at Ken, making sure to keep her voice quiet as she spoke this time. "Please my dear and faithful partner-in-crime, it isn't like this is my first scandalous deed. Give me some credit here, will ya'?"
They had been planning this particular escapade for about a week now, and Maddie was nothing if not prepared. She had made sure to get everything needed ahead of time, checking and rechecking their plans, and now- finally- it was time.
- Example 2
NeonSpirits wrote:Feeling like she had given it enough time, Casey went to rewind the tape. 'Yeah..The spoon, fork..' The girl froze, breathing all but stopped as her eyes slowly moved down the page. The tape wasn't playing. The lights flickered ominously, and with one magnificent flash all her lanterns cut out. Leaving her in complete darkness. Oh. She didn't move for a couple minutes, completely ridged as her eyes ever so slowly adjusted to the pitiful amount of moonlight streaming through. Forcing herself to calm down, she grabbed at her flashlight. After a few fruitless attempts to turn it on, she gave up with a strangled noise.
"Okay Cas, don't panic. You're just in a creepy, haunted Asylum with no light source. At least the ghosts seem friendly.." Her joke fell flat, and after realizing her phone received the same fate as the lanterns, her stomach quickly followed suit. Taking in a deep breath, Casey decided to just ditch her stuff for now and make a break for it. She would come back in the morning after school to retrieve it, no biggy. It wasn't like anyone else ever came up here. This probably happened all the time to the Ghost Hunters and Mediums. Yeah. Except she could recall a single episode or book covering this topic. Trying not to think about that small detail, she grabbed her laptop and turned towards the door. Only to stop short. Leaning against a wall a few feet in front of her stood a boy, probably around her age, with inky black hair and icy blue eyes. Oh.
